I have a few razors needing replating, and have thumbed through the old threads to see what is offered. Unfortunately, most of the services available, are no longer around. What are the businesses in the USA, that replate razors? Nickel and Gold. Here is what I have found. Anyone have others?? I have used a couple of these services many years ago, with mixed results. http://www.razorplate.com/p/prices.html https://backroadsgold.com/gold-electroplating-services/ https://www.razoremporium.com/services https://sportshaving.com/razor-replating
Did you use Back Roads Gold? Their name comes up a lot on various forums. I've never had a razor replated, since for $60 I could probably buy one of my razors again in mint condition anyway.
I've tried Razor Emporium, around 9-10 yrs ago. They did a really nice job. But, that was when they were either doing nice work, or very bad work. I've heard they do excellent work now, but they cost twice as much. I've sent several razors to Chris, at Razorplate.com . This was when he first started. I've also heard Back Roads Gold did great work. .
I believe if you pay extra, Razor Emporium takes photographs of the finished product. Edit: Before and after I believe. I could look to confirm but I already have 90 windows open.
Chris Evatt / RazorPlate does exceptional work. He has replated five razors for me, all in nickel. I hope to be sending him another job in the not too distant future.
I agree, Chris did an amazing job on a custom black/white rhodium fat boy and a 58 Executive for me. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk
Anyone familiar with Nick at https://sportshaving.com/razor-replating ?? His site says his plating services have temporarily been suspended. I have emailed him, to find out how long. His plating has always had excellent reviews from past members. Just curious if he is out of business, or just on vacation.
Update: I made contact. He might resume plating, after the holidays. His jewellery shop is keeping him busy, at this time.
I am specifically curious about Rhodium options. My recent inquiries have been problematic with comments about high costs for Rhodium solutions due to EV cars, green energy consumption, etc. Also curious about specific concerns regarding plating Stainless or Bronze razors. I have gotten mixed messages on plating C954 Bronze.
Does Captain Murphy still do work on razors? I remember when the only recomendation was to have the captain take the razor apart and ship it to chris for the plating and then have the captain put it back together and get it minty
Neither does Rhodium but, Bright Nickel is an option. They also do not work with Bronze or Stainless razors.
I sent two Gillette Fatboys to Back Roads Gold replating services, a week ago. I received them back today. Very fast service Both very similar E-1 razors, with a lot of plate loss. Both needed Gap adjustments, and I did that before sending them out.
Here is the Mirror Nickel I got back from Back Roads Gold. It is flawless, and better looking than a NOS Fatboy(I have a couple). If there is anything in the photos that looks off, I can assure you that this is because of my sorry camera. The doors look like liquid Nickel. Stunning. Total: $60. No Tax and No Shipping fees.
