Well I am new to wet shaving and im starting to branch out more and more. Just curious if cremo is a good product for DE shaving. Thanks for responding in advance.
I find it very slick, but by no means my favorite. It is really inexpensive and can be found locally. Give it a whirl and see for yourself.
I believe it's a latherless cream so you may not enjoy that. Maybe that's what you're looking for though.
Cremo is an excellent example of a convenient, latherless cream. If one reads and follows the instructions on the label it performs as advertised. I used it exclusively back when I was a shower shaver and sang its praises. I no longer use it as my shave routine has morphed into a 20 minute day spa before work rather than a daily chore.
For a latherless cream, if you follow the directions, it works fine. I prefer to make lather though. That is why I piffed mine away. YMMV.
I didn't care for cremo, neither the scent nor the performance. But, there are some brick and mortars that still have an offer of "free" on it (mail in rebate or something). So, if you can get it for free, it might be worth a shot. Also check their website for that offer.
That is how I got mine. I was actually excited to try this new product. It didn't cost me anything, and it didn't cost my piffee anything either.
I didn't like it. There are a lot of great products out there arko, cella, tobs and Stirling to name just a few. but you can find Cremo at many drug stores. That's a good place to leave it.
Cremo is good but, i would skip over it and just pick up a puck of Van Der Hagen soap. Its performs great, its local, and its cheap! The Van Der Hagen Deluxe is popular among most DE shavers.
Use Cremo as a super lather ingredient, add it to any cream soap and it is amaizing!!!!! Also it helps deplete your supply of cremo.
Try it. I like the scent, but found it left my skin feeling a little oily compared to my regular soaps and creams.
if you are looking for a good cream that can be found locally I would recommend Kiss My Face. I have the Peaceful Patchouli and the scent is great. it comes in several scents and comes in a big bottle so it is very inexpensive and has good performance.
The combination of Cremo Cream and Van der Hagen deluxe gives me absolutely great and close shaves! What I did was melt the two together. The first thing I did was cut a puck of the VDH deluxe into eight pieces and microwaved it in a custard bowl for 10 seconds. I then microwaved it again for another 10 seconds. It was soupy after that. I then stired in one tablespoon of Cremo cream until it melted along with it. Put it in the fridge for a couple of hours and then set it out to dry and harden. When I use it I add a little hot water to the puck for about a minute, and then wet my VDH boar brush with hot water. Shake the brush four or five times, and give it a lite squeeze. I then pour the water off the puck and shake it a little. Then I can load the brush with about 10 to 15 swirls and go to a face lather. It loads quick and creamy with more than enough for the shave. On the clean-ups, I can just add water to my fingertips and moisten the area to shave and the Cremo suds comes out for a slickness that does the job. Finish up with witch hazel, Clubmans, and Nivea balm for a wonderful smooth feel. I love the smell of the two combined and it is now my preferred soap. Loved it so much I also made a shave stick out of it with an old deodorant canister for traveling. I'm amazed at how well it loads with just a face lather with the soap applied to the face.
I'm usually soap-and-brush, but I like Cremo when I want quick and easy. Wet your face (after prep), apply with your fingers, and get to work. Very slick. It's truly not for lathering or use with a brush, though -- I got no good results with that. The brush seems to just push the cream around. (Counterpoint: Head Slick, another cheapo non-brush, non-lather cream. For me, it's only tolerable when applied by hand but downright nice with a damp brush. It's not luxurious but very effective, light menthol content which brushing helps awaken. Actually produces a light lather.)
