Okay, 'cursing' is a bit of an overreaction, but I have come to the realization that no matter how carefully or how carelessly I type, I am constantly chagrined at the typed anomalies that keep appearing in the body of my composition. Here is an example: I type the following: "The bore brush is the finest sharing brush I have ever felt completed to use each mooring." ...which should read: "The boar brush is the finest shaving brush I have ever felt compelled to use each morning." Even though I type what I intend to state, the auto correct 'thinks for me' and jumps to the conclusion it knows the word I mean to type...even before I'm finished. Grrrrrrrrrrr...... Yes, I know, I can disable it. I believe the auto-correct feature does have a place in today's on-the-fly texting environment—but sometimes I feel I'm typing and retyping my comments over & over...and still finding odd, unexpected words in my comments. So I guess you take the 'bad' with the 'good' sometimes.... Anyone else feel this way, or am I alone in this petty gripe? (and of course, I proofed and reproofed this post several times before hitting the SAVE button)
IMHO, auto-correct exists only to give the recipient something to laugh about b/c it never corrects correctly. Correct?
I feel the same way. It took Microsoft 8 years to allow me to write two interface ports instead of two interfaces port
Many years ago I wrote an article for our PTA newsletter where I reported that the teachers had met together to "brainstorm" ideas for the coming year. The letter was printed and mailed out. I was surprised to see that they had met together to "barnstorm" ideas. That is why I don't use auto correct. I'd rather make my own mistakes.
Didn't know there was an auto spell check. I just get the usual scwiggly red line like the one that just showed up under scwiggly, when a word is amiss...
The other auto-correct-ish issue that drives me slightly nuts is that Firefox on my two linux boxes insists that I speak UK English no matter how often I tell it otherwise. Yes, my language settings in KDE are correct and US English is installed in FF.
I deactivated auto correct many winters ago. I can spell. My grammar sucks, but a misspelled word jumps right out at me.
Yup. I hate autocorrect and autospell and autowhatever. I am pretty capable of making my own mistakes, thank you. I don't need a program to make mistakes out of the few things I do right...
A storm in a barn is sometimes a necessary thing to accelerate the teachers thought processes, or sometimes you just need to get the teachers on the road for 2,000 miles or so stopping from place to place to have impromptu teaching sessions to bolster the product line!
Aut0-correct can get really interesting when you are trying to type a person's name that is uncommon or has an unconventional spelling.
Title modified to include, "AutoCorrect"—which is probably more culpable in these instances than 'SpellCheck.' I am constantly having to retype the word 'balm' in most of my postings as it is constantly appearing as 'postshave blame' or 'aftershave blam'….
