This is the latest pair of custom scales i've just finished in Welsh Holm Oak, with 1mm high gloss red high impact liners, and triple stacked brass washers, and a faux ivory wedge, i'm now on the look out for a nice 5/8 or 6/8 blade to restore and use, hope you like them. I can see from the photo's that i need to clean a little stain by the washers from the brass, this will easily polish off later when i fit and finish the project.
    Jamie.

Never thought about using oak, I have a lot of it, but what can I say. They look great.

Nicely done! Especially like the stacked brass washers. Do you think the brass will discolor the wood over time?

No especially using such a hardwood as oak, can't see it happening to be honest.

Excellent! I didn't know about brass and oak not interacting. I've had the problem with other materials.

I really like the liners Jamie. I never saw them until your work. Really looks good, this set especially.

What are the liners made from?

Hi Howard, High impact acrylic and glued in place with industrial strenght CA glue, the same liners found on custom knives, and also the glue most costom knife makers use for this kind of work. In fact that's where i usually buy my supplies from in the UK custom knife parts and supplies. I will give you the link if you wish to take a look.

That's an excellent site! They've got some great stuff and I see they're opening a razor maker/restorer addition to the website. In addition to the liner material I see lots of interesting stuff like bog oak. I haven't seen that here in the States. Love their damascus axes too. Thanks for the tip.

Found the car to go with those scales. Shot this while driving, so sorry about the poor pic and framing.
