Just finished these scales today, they are made of lignum Vitae with Lignum wedge and white acrylic liners, a solid decorative pin of brass and stainless steel, i will also use large stainless steel and smaller stainless steel washers and a nickel silver pin on the pivot when i find the right blade. I dont have a razor ready for these, but I'm on the look out for a nice 6/8 blade. Jamie.
Beautiful. Stuff like this makes me want to take up straight razor shaving. Don't know if that's good or bad...
Love that inlay and Lignum Vitae is turning out to be my favorite custom scales, gorgeous looking. Send them to me as I've got a blade that will look real sharp dressed up in them.
Wow. That's beautiful. You did a damn good job on those! Very impressive. I'd love to see more of your work!
here's a link to some of my restores if you would like to take a look. http://s713.photobucket.com/albums/ww135/pughthecelt/Razor restoration/ Jamie
Well on the inside the high impact acrylic seal that side of the wood, otherwise i use bees wax and glosswax 18 on the buffing wheels, but after all in reality you should never get your straight razor scales wet while shaving that includes your hands, i know you can flood the scales with CA glue then eventually cut the scales back to a high gloss finish with some high grit papers then buff on the polishing wheels, i have a custom razor i'm working on at the moment in ebony that's been polished using bees wax, i will post a few pictures when i finish her. Jamie.
