My wife bought me a five pack of these blades while she was picking up some items at CVS. I was a bit skeptical at first, but decided to load one into my EJ DE89L. I took it for a test run with some C.O. Bigelow eucalyptus shave cream. You know what? I was pleasantly surprised. This blade gave me a very smooth and comfortable shave, even against the grain. I did some further research, and found out that these blades are made by Personna. Although I am still trying out various blades, and am fairly new to safety razor shaving, these blades seem to be of very good quality. I realize YMMV, but have any of you had any experience with these blades?
Just finished a package of those and they're pretty nice. I'm still trying different blades myself, but I love a bargain and these were good to me. I didn't know they were made by Personna, but that's cool.
I used them when I first started "traditional" shaving, they are very nice blades and perhaps even better you can get them locally...
They are decent blades. If you like them, try the "Labs" which I think are pretty much the same blade but with a PTFE coating. They seem even smoother to me and they're cheaper when you buy them by the 100 online. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0077LAJT2/?tag=thshde-20
Hmmm... they must've changed substantially. These were my first DE blades (several years ago) as they were locally available and I found them to be like shaving with a rusty beer can.
Yes the CVS blades are Personna's and I use them myself. Be careful though, the blades sold at Dollar General, Rite Aid and some other local stores are similarly packaged but are actually Dorco 300's and IMO are nowhere as good as the Personna's. YMMV.
All those years I was shaving with my old Army issue DE, that is all I bought was the drugstore blades. Heck, I didn't even know you could get blades anywhere else. I was living in a small town and the store used to stock them just for me because everyone else was using those plastic things. Most of the time they were very good. Once in a while you got richgem's rusty beer can.
Fred's store brand blades are also msde by Personna, and at least where I live, they're only $1. Seems like the CVS blades were something like $2.50, substantially more than Fred's. I also tried the Dollar General blades, and they were terrible. I struggled to get through one shave.
If you like the store branded Personna's and don't mine mail order, you might want to try the Viking's Sword also by Personna...You have to order them, but they shave really nice!! Guy named Liorfe on ebay sells them....
I believe the CVS DE blades are "average" overall, but quite useful in slightly taming an aggressive razor. They work well in my Merkur slant and Gillette Super Speed Red Tip. I would not recommend them in a mild razor, such as the Gillette Tech. My whiskers are medium coarse.
I find them to be very nice blades. Not bbs quality but definately dfs capable. And IMO you are correct Sir, Very smooth
