...so what's the typical method for using both edges equally? Use one edge for the left side of the face, one for the right and just try to remember to flip the razor? Because if you don't really keep track of this during a shave (I don't know if I would even want to try to keep track after putting it in its stand), won't one edge become dull before the other, potentially annoying me and/or making me trash the blade sooner than necessary?
Don't think about it so hard... every time I lift the razor off my face, I flip it over so I'm using the other side. When both sides are used (ie. covered in lather and whiskers), rinse & repeat. Next shave do the same. Repeat until it's time to change the blade in 1 - 10 shaves time (depending on your beard, the blade, the opposition of Pluto in Aries if astrology floats your boat)
Hi Benson, Remember that you do not shave your face all at once. You make a few strokes on your face with one side of the razor and then turn the razor around and do the same thing with the other edge. Rinse the razor and repeat. Do this until your shave is complete. Also, some have asked about turning a blade upside down after each shave. This is totally unnecessary, though some people (including me) do it. And, no, I haven't a clue as to why I do it. :think002 :happy102 In both instances, you are not going to be using a DE blade long enough to dull it unevenly.
1. lather up... 2. Take a stroke or two 3. remove razor from face 4. flip the razor 5. Take a stroke or two 6. rinse the razor Repeat 1-6 as many times as needed
This is almost exactly my technique. My friend here has the spot on idea of how to use both sides without keeping a chart or whatever. You do it by feel. No biggie.
Just switch when ever you feel like. Sometimes I rinse off the razor even before using the other side. Just go with it.
So there you have it. Don't make shaving more complicated than it has to be. Just do what you're comfortable with and enjoy your shave.
I used each edge for a single shave. One day I use one edge, the next day I use the other. Most of my razors have markings I can use to distinguish the edges. Or I can see markings on the blade through the bottom. After two shaves, I replace the blade. When my face gets irritated from a dull blade, it stays red for at least a week. So I'd rather toss a blade with a few good shave left in it than risk shaving once too often. Even the most expensive DE blades are cheap enough.
