This thread will be dedicated to my testing a few blades that I have not used before. As to keep the reviews as fair as possible, I will diligently shave daily so the new hair growth is roughly the same length. I will also use Omega Soap exclusively for these tests. I will update the thread regularly. Blade 1: Swann-Morton Skin Graft DE Blade Day 1: This blade did not work well for me at all. I was able to get a decent shave. Had a decent amount of tug and pull. Only used this blade once. Blade 2: Merkur Platinum Day 1: Great shave, nice blade and very comfortable. BBS achieved! Day 2: All around good shave. DFS...near BBS except neck area. Can notice some blade edge deterioration. Day 3: Same as day 2, except with some add'l blade edge deterioration. Probably wit manage one more day. (Blade retired after 3 shaves) Blade 3: Ever Ready Day 1: Nice close shave. Near BBS, little irritation. Day 2: DFS achieved. However, I have noticed much more significant blade deterioration than the Merkur. I will be using a new blade tomorrow.
Les Yeux Sans Visage (a disgustingly overrated French art/horror film...the blade name reminds me of it)
In the the letter that was sent along with the samples, it was mentioned that this blade was not intended for this method of shaving...but could yield a BBS. In my case, however...it did not. But it was worth a try!
I love reading blade reviews. It always gets me to try new ones. Some work for me, others not so much (YMMV). It does help to keep things fresh though. Thank you for posting!
Awake2shave also did a review of those skin grafters..I think he was searching for a replacement of Iridiums or Polsilvers. If memory serves, he seemed to get overall ok results, perhaps better than yours Chris, but was disappointed in the blade longevity...
Your right on that one Joe seams only me and Mr. Carington were able to hit the 3 shave mark I think 5 savages made it to 2 shave with his. As I stated in the letter to Chris that came with the PIF he won the skin graph blades have a very small sweet spot . There really is not much room for error. I get best results with the the skin graph blade in an adjustable cranked to 9 or in my Parker SR-1 otherwise all I seam to do is exfoliate.
Merkur blades always gave me a terrible shave that took days for my neck to recuperate from. (My neck is starting to burn just thinking about it.) Kudos for making them work!
I have had the same experience with Merkur. I've tried them with different razors and have keep having issues with them. While they may work for some, they just are not for me, YMMV.
Those blades are really meant for the stated medical purpose. Do not confuse them with Personna Med Preps which can be used for shaving.
I did get two shaves from my Swann Morten blade, but under normal situations I would have tossed it after one shave. I felt I needed to give it a second chance so I did so, but with same result...a tuggy shave that wasn't very close.
I have been updating my initial post in this thread daily. If you want to keep up to date, add the thread to your watch list as I will not necessarily be commenting...but rather updating.
