I'm not new to shaving my head. I've been using a variety of multi-bladed cartridges for about 10 years. My recent conversion to DE face shaving was reason enough to try it on my scalp. I think it took about 3 face shaves for me to remember how to handle a DE and get a CCCS. So....I decided that I ought to give it a go to my head. Let me just tell you that I am really glad I started using a DE on my head. I can't see my entire head so I have to shave by feel and sound. Shaving blind has really helped me with finding the correct angle with the razor. I did find a couple of moles around on the backside of my head but thats okay. I have completed about a half dozen DE head shaves. I get a better shave with the DE and if I skip a day or two, the stubble is easy to rinse out of the razor as compared to the gummed up mess I get with cartridges or the fun Headblade ATX. If you are a regular head shaver and have not tried a DE skull shave, I highly encourage it. Skull lathering is nice too.
The Headblade ATX is horrible IMO. I've been using my EJ89L and doing well with it. I'm still new to head shaving, so I've just started going ATG. For the last month I've just been doing 2 WTG passes.
I think that I enjoy shaving my head more than shaving my face. I really enjoy shaving my face. But DE shaving my skull is just outstanding. The whole ritual is great. Scalp lathering is a real joy. I'm down to 2 passes for a near BBS scalp shave.
I'm getting better at it every day, but with my hair growth I must shave it every or it does become a task. But YES, the shave is so much better.
I don't head shave now, but in March of 2010 my grandson (2 yrs old) lost all his hair because of chemo, and I shaved my head to support him. Because of that my dermatologist found a melanoma on the top of my head. I would have never found it if it were not for his cancer. He is in remission now and doing well.
