I thought very hard and prayed about what direction the Nationwide Tour Box was to take. Recent events during the past year when the box was stolen. While 99% of those that have participated have done so with high morals and respect for others. Unfortunately there were the 1% that decided the box was a great way to fully stock their den or even worse to sell off the contents. I fully understand the reluctance to restock the box, knowing the chance that it will be stolen again. No matter how one changes the rules there will be someone that will ignore them and steal the box. I want to thank those in the past that rescued the box for it to continue. Your generosity proves how awesome the shave community is. I can not continue to ask for the box to be recreated after a thief. I took over the box almost four years ago. I have enjoyed every moment managing the box. This past year has been disheartening though. Those That have been faithful participants and those also participated I humbly thank you. You made managing the box such much fun. Now the hard part I wish there was a way to save the Nationwide Tour Box from the ashes. I do not see a foreseeable solution to create yet another box. The Box, at this moment can not go on. The thieves that decided the to keep the box have spoiled it for everyone. There is where we stand, Happy New Year.
This is sad news. Hopefully a solution can be found. While I never was a participant I thought it was a cool idea and considered it a fixture of this great forum. It will be missed.
Brad - Thank You for taking the box to another level. We can get one going again. I have some shave sticks and a straight or two, and a few razors and blades to seed another box.
There was a travelling box of shave stuff going around a few years ago. After many tries, I got the box back from one of the originators and got it going again. Fishcrow took it over when I had too much personal junk going on to manage the box. Brad did an awesome job of keeping the box on track.
I fully understand your decision, @fishcrow. If someone steps up to take over the box, will the donations made after the last one went AWOL be forwarded?
Man... that really.... sucks. I would like to say I can't believe it happened but this is the internet. Stole the box. What a douch that guy is. This may sound cold but as many new people come and go around here, and while it's a nice idea for people to tryout stuff, I say let them get their own stuff. No reason to ride the backs of others who have purchased the stuff and pay to mail it around.
Knew it had to come to this but it's for the best. Three "losses" over the past few years that I can recall. Don't blame you one bit. Not to toot my own horn but I kickstarted one of the stolen boxes a few years back. Not in the mood to do it again.
I feel that I can either start or at least help seed a new box. There simply have to be stricter rules (like full phone number, address, email info given along with minimum post count and forum member requirements.) We would also need to gauge who all would contribute and/or want to be added to the list.
I'm new to this group and wasn't aware of a box. I don't understand how something that must be mailed to individuals can't be tracked. What am I missing here?
It was tracked. The member who stole it simply didn't respond to any messages from Brad (fishcrow) on the forum, through email, phone calls, or through U.S. snail mail. He received the box (as we knew from tracking) and then vanished. Really sad.
Which is exactly why our Classified rules are as strict as they are. Sad not all people can be trusted.
Why not have recipients put up a deposit to receive it. Also have to ship it back to the pass around moderator for inspection. PayPal, issue refund upon inspection. Comes down to a little extra shipping to participate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sad state of humanity. Regardless of rules, there is always a risk. I try to look at the 99.9% of folks who are honest that the. 01% that taint the waters. Sent using Tapatalk
So sad. I want to think that one person can not let such a fantastic way of sharing shaving goodies ruin it for everyone.
Wow, this is horrible news. I've participated in quite a few of these boxes. I had a lot of fun, grabbed some cool items, and it was a good way to offload a lot of stuff that I didn't like or didn't use enough. Some people are lower than low and will steal anything they can get their hands on. Let's have his address and send him rotten pig intestines.
I'm more then willing to keep managing the box. If the box is to continue in a new format,we will need donations to start a new box. At the moment I have a donation of soaps and I will add several soaps also. Several great suggestions. In all the cases of the box going AWOL, I called repeatedly to those that had it and they refused to respond. Part of the rules is to give me phone#, e-mail, address. Personally I would like to see the box rise from the ashes and to go on.
The box is tracked and in each case I know the box had been received. I message him the next address. I allow max 10 days to get the box moving, 7 is preferred. The person is to message me the shipment tracking info. If i have not received it then I message the person. Normally it is they got busy with life and mailed off the next day. After no response from messaging, I message again. After a second non response, then I e-mail them. At this point I suspect that something is fishy. At that point I begin to call them. Normally at this point they won't answer my call or return my call after a voice mail.
