Derby versus wilkinson sword

After using wilkinson sword blades for about 10 days I tried a derby blade. I found it rather rough. It doesn't glide like the wilkinson sword. No cuts or weeps though. My only other blades are feathers. Should I try these yet?

Sure. Why not? How else are you going to know if they work for you or not? Nothing to be afraid of; they are designed to cut, just like all the rest of the razor blades we buy.

Feathers are great. Just very little pressure. Very, very little pressure. If your face starts to feel sore just stop. But once oyu get the hang of them they leave your face feeling super smooth and give a great shave.

The funny thing about blades -- how something so minute as the fine cutting edge of a double edge razor blade can spark so much discussion! As I was trying every blade I could get hold of, and making my way through the first year of DE shaving, each new contender was exciting and different (whether I liked it or didn't).

After several years of using a safety razor, I find that the blades make less difference than I originally thought. I still don't really care for Dorco 300s, but I can get at least one good shave from any blade I've tried -- the Derbys that I used to find uncomfortable shave very well for me now. I've still got my favorites, and I will always be quite choosy when buying blades in larger lots, but I'm through mailing razor blades ahead to my destination just to keep the TSA happy -- if I'm flying to any city in north America or Europe I'm confident I will be able to buy some brand of blade that will work just fine.

Between CVS and Malwart there's always something usable.

With a too dull blade, the blade get caught in the whiskers and you experience sudden skips and jumps among the pulls and tugs. With a dull blade it is difficult to keep precision.
A too sharp blade will slice with precision through the whiskers. If you had too much pressure, you might experience a bit of irritation.
I am not saying one will never get an accident with too sharp blades, but rather that too dull ones are more dangerous because of lost precision.

Feathers are over hyped, in my opinion; they are sharp blades indeed, but not terrifying like some make them.

Much depends on the razor / blade combination as well.

As I recall, the Wilkinson Sword add was similar to that of Hai Karate in the sounding(the two swords crossing and the karate move)
