In my never-ending quest for more Sandalwood scents, can anyone give me some info on Diptyque's Tam Dao? Is it similar/just like Floris Sandalwood? Similarities at all? All I can find out from research is that Tam Dao is essentially a Sandalwood scent, but how wildly different/similar is it to Floris Sandalwood? C&E Sandalwood? Art of Shaving, etc? Thanks in advance!!!
Since I love thread resurrections Jason, if you still havent tried the tam dao let me know. Got a whole bottle and its damn good! Balls to the wall Sandalwood.
I would say its a cologne. Its strong and stays with you all day. But damn it smells nice and woodsy. If you like QED sandalwood then you would love this stuff.
you know...I've been meaning to ask (not you in particular, but since you're here)... What is the difference between a cologne and EDT? Not familiar with QED sandalwood - so far the only sandalwood I've been exposed to is TOBS cream, C&E soap, and the little cone shaped incense from my younger years...
Good question I have no idea but I think cologne is stronger? Someone will chime in soon. QED is very woodsy and nothing like AOS, TOBS, or Salters. T&H sandalwood is kind of nice and woodsy but QED is head on.
Whoa -- a blast from the past! In the time since I've posted this one, I've managed to score a bottle of the Tam Dao. Magical stuff!
I completely agree. Had the opportunity to sniff it at T&H in Chicago a month or two ago. How does the Tam Dao compare to the Floris? I think I've sniffed the Tam Dao somewhere in Boston, but I can't remember exactly what it smelled like.
The Tam Dao is much more pronounced... by that I mean it projects more than the Floris. The Floris Sandalwood is a very close, very intimate scent... really only you and someone snuggled RIGHT up next to you would smell it. The Tam Dao has a more "standard" projection. By straight scent, they're quite similar -- at least to my nose.
I bought Tam Dao on a whim because I love the smell of sandalwood. While it is not "pure" sandalwood - there is some cedar and other elements in there too - it is a very nice woodsy fragrance. In fact, it's probably one of the nicest smelling fragrances I've ever tried. I'm not a big cologne / fragrance guy either.
Does Nordstrom's carry Tam Dao? I shouldn't read this stuff, it makes me want to go find stuff I don't really need.
Bong, If you still havent tried the Tam Dao between now and the next time I send you something I will send a sample. It is a love it or hate it type fragrance. Not one I think should be worn in a professional environment ONLY because it is strong and in your face and not subtle at all. A little goes along way. It sticks around on me all day as well. If you like the QED sandalwood....this is your stuff!
It was pretty subtle on me, but I've only tried it once. I would say after four hours it just barely lingered. I thought the lotion was a lot more "in your face".
For the record... Bigelow sells it online for $88: http://www.bigelowchemists.com/product_info.php/products_id/1912
Tam Dao, to me, is what pure Sandalwood oil WANTS to be. It's not just woodsy, it's WOOD in a bottle. Like, Gucci II or Terre d'Hermes kind of wood. In the best way possible. Sandalwood, by the way, is one of the primary aphrodisiacs mentioned in the Kama Sutra. I'm not sure why I felt the need to mention that... but now you know. DW loves Tam Dao... as a room spray.
