Hi guys, I'm about to purchase a dirty bird scuttle and would like a liitle info from those of you who have used them. I bowl lather with creams most of the time with the occasional mwf or tabac thrown in the mix. I use a savile row 3824 which, for those of you not familiar with the brush, is a 24mm knot brush. I would prefer the 1.0 but am not sure if the bowl will be big enough to lather in. So my questione are: 1. Is the 1.0 bowl big enough to lather in with a 24mm brush? 2. What do you thinks about the dribble port? Thanks Catfish
Dirty Birds are awesome. I think your brush may be a bit big. I use a standard sized badger & there's just enough room, as though I were using a deep mug. I HIGHLY recommend a long handled brush. One thing I noticed is that the lather climbs 1/2 way up the handle before I apply to the face no matter how careful I am. Another thing I'd recommend is asking Julie (the lady @ dirtybird) to make a lip around the lather bowl so the lather doesn't climb out of the lather bowl. It works flawlessly! Personally I don't see a need for a dribble port. THe heat breaks the lather down juuuuuuuust slightly enough to NOT need a dribble port. I have never added water to a lather in the scuttle. Whn the brush begins to dry out while lathering, I'll dip the brush in the sink of hot water, but that's it. The lather in the bowl will be fine.
The 1.0 is good, my wife got me the 1.5 I think it is called. I love it, great for a nice warm lather. I alternate it in with my other shave mugs I have. I dont know what I ever did without my Dirtybird.
I don't think I've used anything else or face lathered since I got my 1.5. Julie is great to deal with and her products are top notch.
I've used a DB scuttle for quite a while and I can say that I love the thing ! I also like bigger brushs and I have the 1.5 size and it works perfectly and makes lots of warm lather. Remember you want enough room to really swirl that brush around and with the 1.5 you've got the room and then some ! As far as the dribble hole goes I can't help you as mine doesn't have one , but then again I've never felt the need for one.
I was just about to pull the trigger on a Dirty Bird Scuttle and noticed that Julie is on sick leave. The web site states that she is taking no further shaving product orders until around Aug 1.
I ordered a brush scuttle and bill bowl on July 2 and didn't hear anything until July 9. Jule told me that she had been on vacation and that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to fill my order. <sigh> But I'm sorry to hear that she's ill.
I have the brush skuttle and the bill bowl , If it broke 2day I would replace it with same skuttle and bowl in a heartbeat
