Hi all, I was just curious to see what people's thoughts were on keeping a separate travel razor kit for when you go on a trip, or do you prefer to pack up your daily set and go with that? I recently purchased a separate travel kit as it's one less thing to pack up. I just grab the case, and I'm done. As well, my daily set is awkward to pack as I have a stand, bowl, no carrying case for the brush, razor, etc. Thanks, Will
I do use separate travel components, but nothing like the old Gillette travel sets. I pack up an inexpensive, but high performing, Lord L6, an inexpensive Franks badger, a tube of Proraso, and a little 2 ounce bottle each of witch hazel and aftershave, and I am ready to go. Face lathering keeps it all simple. In fact, I am posting this right now from somewhere in North Africa, where I just enjoyed a perfectly satisfying shave in low light, with lukewarm water, and a postage stamp size towel!
Yes. The vast majority of my travel is one or two nights so I travel with carry on. I have a toiletries kit which has within it a EJ travel brush, Gillette Sensor Excel cart razor, a shave stick and matching aftershave in a small 50ml container. Not as good as the shave at home but convenient and ready to go!
I keep a small Gillette travel set on my boat. Muhle travel brush, Gillette Tech, Palmolive stick, alum stick. All packed into a tiny space. Use the wife's moisturiser.
I have a Gillette Guard system for travels, along with my Proraso brushless gel and (awaiting order) Proraso After shave balm. It's compact and I don't have to think whether I'm flying (blades and carry on....) or camping. I can use that kit everywhere and on every occasion and if I loose it I won't cry a river
I don't travel much, and when I do I'm usually driving myself. I just pack up my everyday stuff. Brushes go in pill bottles, razors get wrapped in tissue, my bowls with soap and my lather mug get safely snuggled in between my clothing, blades take up almost no room at all. I'm honestly baffled that 2-3mm less in loft or knot size, or few fewer grams in weight of a razor warrant "travel" kits. I can understand packing inexpensive items in case of loss, but the whole travel kit... It's your trip. Enjoy it your way.
I do have a separate travel kit. It's just a nylon zip pouch with my Parker 29L (my first, before I got my SA) a shaving soap, a small bottle of pre-shave oil & a travel brush.
Yes I do, I use my travel brush in travel tube and take a shave stick with me (Palmolive shave stick), I sometimes use that set up at home as it works great, but its a nice compact set-up, and works for me That said I take whatever is good size wise and will give me the best shaves the above fits the bill for me.
I also don't travel very much..I actually do have a travel toiletry case. Where I can safely and securely pack smaller amounts of my normal toiletries. I've taken my daily razor with me,but I'm trying to find a permenant replacement that can be left, always ready to go, in the travel case. It must give me an acceptable shave, be lighter than I normally use, but still somewhat durible and be CHEAP and easily replaced.. As of now the Yuma is at the top as it meets all the criteria except perhaps for durability... Other than that I'll just take my Trac2.
On the question of "why bother". C'mon guys, how many brushes do you have? How many razors? Travel set is a nice excuse for more acquiring - don't knock it.
I just use my regular equipment. The only difference is I usually bring my equipment that can be easily packed. Lile my Feather injector because it has a case that holds the razor and blades; a tub of proraso; etc. That being said, I hardly travel anymore (my wife and I used to go to the mountains a few times a year....now it is once if that). I do look forward to the day I can get out more though!
My post was surely not meant to knock but merely a statement on something beyond understanding for me. The acquiring I get totally. But not out of neccesity (spellplate please), as pointed out above, it's merely a few millimeters or gram. So no bad vibes from here!
I've always had a travel kit (it will be slightly upgraded now, though) because I pretty much keep it packed with a razor and brush that I rarely use. Also I don't have to worry about it getting lost or stolen (years ago I had a toiletry kit stolen by/from the airlines). If I mistakenly leave it somewhere I can still come home to a great, comfortable shave with the products I normally use to pamper myself.
Please don't let your wife/partner read your posts. You'll never get that new brush/razor/blade lol. Seriously, when did logic have anything to do with it? It's a MANIA.
Well, I have been travelling extensively worldwide for more than 25 years and I have been using all that time an old and convenient Apollo DE, my father bought in Argentina in 1965... I'm still using it while on the go, It's leather case is sized like a small wallet and it does not take lot of space ... This kit is completed since 1990 by a small rubberset travel badger brush.... I just refill a small bottle of my favourite aftershave and carry my TOBS cream ....
For driving trips I take this but If I have to fly all I carry is an injector, brush, and shave stick.
Weren't you recently in Paris?? I want to be you when I grow up. No travel kit for me, though I may swipe WW's killer case if his cat returns my email
My travel kit contains more of a selection than my regular rotation does. If I have to put up with traveling, I may as well be pampered doing it. These are old images, my kit gets upgrades on a semi regular basis.
Well I have a perfect kit for a Tech. I bought it NOS with a Tech made in Argentina. It still had the blade card in it and it was in Spanish. Very cool. Since I have two other Techs, I throw my secondary aluminum Tech in it with some blades. As for soap, I take a Palmolive stick or any tube of cream under 100 ml. Then those handy little bottles with witch hazel and aftershave. It all gets put into an Adidas hygiene bag that I got for Christmas from my grandma a few years ago.
