Is there a doctor in the house ? I seem to be suffering from a case of Endcap Dysfunction. As you can see from the picture my endcap unexpectedly fell off. It still works, but how do I reattach it ? I think it may take more than a blue pill to help me with my E.R. Or should I discontinue use until it is treated and fixed ? I searched Web MD with no luck. So I came here next hoping I could get some help.
Sounds like a good excuse to have to buy a soldering iron. Is there one that would work better for this type of metal ? Are the various temperature settings on a soldering iron? Thanks,
The end caps were originally attached with solder. Be advised, the heat from re-soldering it will destroy the plating (at least on gold plated razors) I'd advise an epoxy instead, unless you plan to have it replated.
Thanks for addressing the heat concern. I wasn't sure after I started thinking on it. I have some epoxy on hand I will try . Then I will give the JB weld a go.
Oh, NapalmCola, you and your ridiculously misleading thread titles! First (that I saw) was your "White sticky mess, how do I clean it up?" thread in the Straight Razors sub forum and now this one. Hilarious!
An elderly friend had told me once that he took the"Blue Pill" every night....... . . . . . . . .It kept him from rolling out of bed at night.
As a newer member I don't have the well known presence that is attached to my name like others. I have to come up with something to erected myself above all the many other posts. In less than six months I have been blessed with the title " well known member ". Keep in mind no where in there does it say well liked. Besides as long as it makes someone smile abit , that's what counts. P.s. you forgot to fill out your name sticker at the forum door. It's still blank, it says " Hello my name is _____". It makes it look like you have no name.
I have a 40's SS missing one end-cap & without a spare I heated it up and took the other cap off and removed all the ugly solder. Now it looks like a Ranger Tech. I used a propane butane torch lighter and it only took a few seconds & didn't damage the plating. If you go the solder route you should use flux to get a good bond. If you're not a purist a dab of epoxy would probably work just as well.
I had one pop off while I was cleaning a razor and lost it down the drain. Now I keep an eye out for loose ones and I've successfully used JB Cold Weld. You only need a very small amount and just let it sit for a day.
