I was loaned a near new Weber razor yesterday. I've never used one before, and frankly didn't really have much interest in one. The only difference I saw between the Weber and my Merkur 30C was that the Weber was 100% stainless. Otherwise, the head looks nearly identical to my Merkur. What is quite different about this razor is that it is quite vocal while working. Not only is it loud, but it actually pings whilst mowing down the stubble. Is this typical of the Weber? Do they all "sing"?
Hmmm... I believe this razor has the standard (classic?) handle, which is quite long and heavy, which is totally different from any of the my other razors. Mostly it's my open comb razors that make noise, but none of them can touch this thing. Now I'm really curious. What would cause such a thing?
Anything is possible I guess. Maybe I should try to figure out how a get a microphone and digital recorder attached to the handle? Or call a therapist?
I think mine sounds more distinctive than any other of my razors. Of course, I use it practically every day. I don't think you are crazy.
I don't think you're necessarily crazy…at least with regard to hearing your razor. We all have different levels of hearing and, more importantly, differing thickness of facial hair growth. What 'sings' on your face may not be the same for someone else. Now the noisiest DE razor I've ever used was the Merkur Futur. Something about the head design just resonated & amplified the sound of whisker-whacking when one shaved.
Very true. I have two Red Tip Super Speeds. One in original condition, one is replated. The original one is the loudest razor I own. I swear that the noise somehow echoes through the head of the razor. It sounds tinny, like speaking into a coffee can. The other Red Tip...not a peep. I don't know if the plating thickness (or lack thereof) is muffling/amplifying the noise. I don't know if it is some other manufacturing variance. Maybe I am giving it too much thought... it is pretty interesting though.
