The Kong toys are awesome. I have German Shepherds that that have not managed to destroy them in years. The tip about putting the peanut butter inside them is awesome. To make them last longer, freeze them first.

Bones are good too, just make sure you use raw so that they don't splinter, and big enough that he can't just crush them. I use 2"-ish pieces of cow femur. They are stout enough for the shepherds, but small enough they can gnaw the marrow out. Toss them out after a week or two when they start to dry out.

My German Shepherd (130 pounds and 31 inches tall) plays with a big rubber bone.

A great tough durable toy is the "Kong Wubba" basically a Kong covered with a thick seatbelt-like canvas. My dog loves his and it last quite a long time with fetch and tug of war.

Water hose or a rock - see below. If not then a tennis ball will always do.

I make her keep it outside - too hard on the porcelain tiles.

How about a cat? My dog used to love them, albeit not in the manner intended. He got plenty of exercise, though.

Yeah, yeah, I know, that's bad. A chew bone and a dog toy with a squeaker in it would probably be better.

Definitely a good antler. I bought my English Bulldog one from this seller on Ebay nearly 2 yrs ago, and it is almost time to buy another.

Won't that risk turning him into a horn dog? ;)

    SharptoothC I bite..........

All depends on the dog. I had a one-eyed pit mix that could play catch for as long as you could go and never get bored or grow tired. The more it bounced and the higher it went, the happier he was. Our current dog (rescue mutt - he had been hit by a car and we don't know his age gets tired from waking up and walking to the water bowl. A walk around the cul-de-sac does him in for the day.

I use salvaged elk antler as toys for my short haired pointers. They love it.

It's the third one in a year - he's already mangled two!

Mine is from champion lineage but he has a terrible fault. He can never be a show dog because he goes into a bloody rage when he sees other dogs and his strength is off the charts. He tore a pit bull apart last year and get this - the pit bull was loose, and attacked him on our property. I've never seen a Shepherd that size before and with such physical power until this one came into our lives.
