I wrote my thoughts on it as part of a SOTD last week. Guess I should have included them here too. Here was the posting:

    SOTD

    Dr. Jon's Savannah Sunrise soap
    L'Occitane Plisson synthetic brush
    Mongoose Razor
    Feather Pro blade
    Ginger's Garden Aventus AS

I decided to go with Dr. Jon's Savannah Sunrise because I have used other barbershop scents and have a ton of citrus scented soaps, but this is my first peach soap.

The soap is very soft -- much closer to a cream than a hard soap like MWF or DRH. Probably even a little softer then Catie's. I didn't feel the need to bloom it and just left a tiny bit of water on there for maybe 10 seconds. It loaded and lathered very easily.

I got a nice dense, protective lather. But where this soap really excels in slickness. It took on a lot of water with ease. Post shave feel was not as nice as Cold River yesterday (but very few soaps match Cold river in that area in my opinion), but was very good.

The scent is very pleasant, extremely robust, and will definitely wake you up. It was much more floral to me than fruity for sure, though I do pick up the peach. Scents are very personal and subjective, but I would probably have wanted a bit more tart in there to balance the sweet a little. I am nitpicking, though, because it is a very nice scent.

Unfortunately, toward the end of pass two I started to get skin irritation. I seem to be more prone to it than most, so I doubt this will be an issue for most other people. It is almost certainly due to the essential and/or fragrance oils since it took a while to kick in and the irritation was mild overall. I wouldn't let this sway you from trying this soap unless your skin is very sensitive. It is a shame, because I really like strong scented soaps like this one, but it makes it more likely to irritate my skin. I may try to air it out a bit to reduce the scent strength and see if that helps.

So, overall Dr. Jon's Savannah Sunrise provides an easy, dense lather with exceptional slickness, and good face feel post-shave. Plus, I love that you can get it in these nice 2 oz. tins.

I decided to do another review of Dr Jon's soaps, since it is still so new to many. I hope you find this helpful.

    Dr Jon's Classic soap
    Plisson synthetic brush
    Mongoose with Dr Bomber handle
    Speick AS

This is my second shave with a Dr Jon's soap. The first soap performed well, but I had some skin sensitivity. I am pleased to say that the Classic did not irritate my skin.

To me, this soap excels in two areas in particular: scent strength and slickness. There was no skimping on the fragrance here. Those that are huge fans of Barbershop scents will be enveloped by it with this soap.

The consistency of this soap is the same as Castle Forbes cream. It is more firm than TOBS cream, but probably the softest soap I have used. Because it is so soft, it lathers with ease without blooming it.

Dr Jon's is a very slick soap. I tend to use more water in my lather than many (certainly more than in people's "lather shot" photos of their brushes). Perhaps I should have used less water because slickness was exceptional but cushion wasn't quite as great. Don't get me wrong, it was very good, just didn't stand out like the slickness.

I used just a splash, not a balm, to evaluate post shave face feel. Here it doesn't stand out as much either. My lanolin soaps make for really tough competition, though (Cold River Select, B&M, etc). It didn't dry out my skin, but didn't moisturize much either.

Overall, it is a very good soap that I recommend adding to your list. If slickness and a robust scent are your most important properties in a soap, this one is a must.

I used Dr. Jon's Anne Bonny Soap for the first time today. The scent (bay rum) was nice and lasted throughout the shave. The cushion and slickness were excellent, and my face felt nice post shave. I have 4 other scents to go through, but my initial impression is that Dr. Jon's produces a quality product, and it has earned a spot in my rotation.
