In my antique store hunting I came across an unopened box of durex de blades with at least 100 blades in it for $9.95. I hesitated on picking it up when I did a quick google search and a search on this site and came up with nothing. Anyone know of or ever use these before?
Your best bet may be to contact Gorgo or Straight Arrow (Rich) via PM to see what they think since they have used them.
Durex is one of the several vintage carbon blades that I keep in my rotation. I have a couple hundred of them. As a matter of fact I shaved with one just this morning. They are among the best of the old carbons that I have tried. Cavere, if you plan on delving into the world of vintage carbon blades be prepared for a period of adjustment. They are not like coated stainless steel DE blades. A different sort of a beast to be sure.
I'm intrigued now... I have a carbon steel straight in my rotation right now that I like a lot. I'm pretty new to de shaving so the adjustment may not be that long. I was just thinking at $0.10 a blade it might be worth picking up. All I have right now are Gillette platinums and vintage thins.
The Thins can be really good blades. As with all vintage carbons a lot depends on how they were stored over the years.
