I guess, starting October, eBay started taxing everything sold. Looks like a solid 8% on everything. I bought items up until the end of September, no taxes. Now, taxes. It use to be only taxed if bought within the state i live. Not anymore.

It's probably a result of the recent Mayfair sales tax court case. You're going to see all online vendors doing this in time.

It does take away some of the appeal of using eBay.

Do you know something I don't? Here in the city limits I'm paying 10.2% sales tax. Outside of town there's not much but rice fields or swampland.

eBay is not charging sales tax to purchases shipped to LA...unlike TX and 32 other states.

Unfortunately my local antique shops are pretty sad so eBay still get my business. :(

There is no "US" sales tax. It's all state and locally originated.

I'm confused. How does ebay collect sales tax on a private transaction? Tnnser seller is supposed to collect.

This is only on old stuff, no?

On new items, sales tax is normally added (VAT in the UK).

Is this just a case of the US catching up with the rest of the world?
