Ive had this brush for a long time (Well just over a year now, and after seeing so many restoration threads I decided to do something with mine. (Granted Ive not got a knot for it yet but it is ready for it) http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/the-haul-july-2nd-2012-july-8th-2012.29217/#post-512274 The link above show's the before pics as I posted it in 'The Haul' last year. And the after pics. I'm quite happy with the end result.
What size did you leave the hole at? 18-20 mm or are you planning on expanding? It makes a big difference in knot choices and how you want to ballast it internally for balance.
BEAUTIFUL restore on the handle!! How/what did you use for the job? Also how did you remove the old knot? I have a number of vintage handles (Latest is a Mohawk) and I'd like to get them at least to this point,so they will be ready if/when I find knots for them..Even if I windup needing someone else to set the knot and complete them.......
I just sanded it with 'Micromesh' http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221203391107?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Above is the link, im sure there will be a USA seller as well. in the photo thats just some dust you can see on the red part, lol as the finish is good alound, You can use micromesh on straight razors to polish the blade or scales its very very fine sand paper grades 1500-12000!!!! it can be used wet or dry and it can be washed.
I used a dremmel type tool and drilled it and sanded it out and polished using micromesh as always when using a dremmel take your time for safety for you and the brush!!.
It set to 20/21mm, Im toying with the idea of making it slightly bigger to get the TGN 22mm finest fan, in to it, (to re-sand it with micro mesh only takes 20mins so no big deal. It will be a short loft for me so Im not too bothered about knot size. Im waiting on a HMW knot for my 2nd Aluminium rubber set, the 1st one has a boar knot now they do take a big knot!!
