I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with older Eversharp blades for Schick Injector razors. Are they as good as today's blades?

I bought a vintage set of injector blades that came with an injector, I think from the 40s, and they were as dull as a butter knife. I'm 33 years old so I wasn't alive during the time where I could've used a brand new set of injector blades unfortunately.

I have used these blades in a G3 and a G6. They are not bad but not as good as the stainless krona edge, the later American schick or the current Chinese schick blades. However, with the current Chinese blades I find the first shave a little rougher than the next 6. Whereas these blades are solidly mediocre for 3-4 shaves.

Actually personna and schick are both still producing injector blades.

I've always used Personna blades, but these I can get at a good deal. Just hoping they'd be OK to get.

Non stainless steel blades deteriorate. Vintage stainless blades keep well and are good to spectacular. Anything labeled Eversharp is likely to have deteriorated and shaves will be passable but not good in the best case.

    Good:

As jmudrick notes they are susceptible to degradation. The ones I used were pristine. Personally I would only get them if they are substantially cheaper and you knew they are still in great shape. This from someone who really likes vintage Schick blades (the only ones pictured below I haven't used are the ones that came with an E2)

In a word ,crap. I would be amazed if you can get a decent shave from those.

Can you visually inspect them or is this an online purchase? If you can see them beforehand and they look good I would take that gamble. If online I would pass.

Personally I would never, ever, ever buy vintage carbon blades for shaving. Even a pristine looking blade will almost always still be a crappy shave. I would never hesitate to buy stainless steel if reasonably priced.

They're online and I don't see anything on the package saying stainless steel. Probably good only for display and use in cases that need them.

To reiterate if it's an Eversharp labeled set it's late 40s or 1950's and not stainless and not worth buying except for collecting purposes. The first stainless I believe were labeled Schick Krona Plus/Krona Comfort Edge blades c. 1964. Early 60s regular Krona blades were still carbon blades.

    Still No (1961):

I've used many of them but sent them all to a member here after finally trying Chicks. I still have many carbon DE blades but injectors are all gone.

Respectfully disagree, based on my own experience. Good carbons provide a different shave from stainless, and I have some from the '40s that are still fine to use. There are no absolutes when it comes to blades, but that's just me.

I didn't say I wouldn't use them, I try anything that looks clean and if you buy vintage injector razors plenty of vintage blades come your way. I had some early 50s PAL injectors that were quite serviceable. But as for buying them rather than their stainless brethren I'll save my money for injectors I'm sure won't have deteriorated. Individually wrapped double edge and traditional single edge blades you might hone are a different animal though I'm done messing with those as well.

Sorry, I thought you were speaking of all vintage carbons in general, not just injectors. If so I agree -- in my experience the old inj. blades do not compare nearly as well to stainless injector blades, while some old carbon DEs match lower and even mid-quality stainless (again, imo). Don't know why there's such a drastic difference but for me, there is.

Yep just focused on the pre stainless injectors.
