Shaved after my shower last night and my face felt hot, not burning, just hot. It's not the first time. Wondering what may have caused this. It was a cold water shave and I used bloom water for prep. Gillette SS adjustable with a #2 setting and a new Personna blue. Stirling Ozark Mountain shave soap, Thayers Lemon Witch Hazel, Addidas AS, Nivea face balm. No cuts or weepers. Could it be technique? The blade? Razor setting?
Nothing I don't normally do. I finally did some research and I may be buffing a bit too much. I think I'm a bit hard on my skin. It's really hard for me to get a bbs shave without buffing. May just have to settle for a dfs instead. It's like an addiction, I want to see how close I can get. I guess I need to learn to step away from the razor, lol.
BBS finds you, you don't find it. Or as the saying goes "don't chase the baby". Nothing wrong with a DFS...unless you're around folks rubbing cotton balls on your face trying to find stubble...
When you dry your face after shaving, do you wipe/rub your face with a towel? I was having post shave irritation some years ago and @swarden43 suggested I pat my face instead of rubbing and in doing so, I have eliminated the irritation altogether.
Thought about that but it doesn't happen every time I shave. I think I'm gonna try not buffing so much and see if that helps.
My initial thought was it was the soap causing a reaction, but after reading what you said about buffing I believe that's the culprit. Once I stopped trying to get the closest shave possible I noticed that things got better with my skin.
The one and only time in my life that I had a sunburn my face felt like it was very hot after a shave. This happened about 15 years ago when I was in Dominican Republic. It was my fault because like a shmuck I fell asleep in the sun on my 2nd day there. A very bad move on my part!
A little off topic, but when I go to dry my face, I use the flapping towel thing. Also, after reading the various skin problem posts, I've come to the conclusion I must have rhino skin. No bumps, ingrown hairs, etc. This was even the case when I was cart shaving.
