I recently saw an interesting article on Japan shaving history, it seem they made an Auto Strop. Anybody knows about them, or where to find one? I have pictures of it an the article link. Thanks.(click on "the history of the Feather safety razor company"to see the article).http://images.google.com/imgres?img...or&ndsp=18&hl=fr&safe=off&sa=N&start=144&um=1
I had the same reaction when i saw it. i searched all over internet and can't find one. I would pay a good price if someone have one to sell.
Hey guys, I really thought I posted about this here...huh. Yeah, I found that on Yahoo Auctions, and actually it still turns up every once in a while. I don't know if it sold or not. Both Feather AND Kai made autostrops early on--which is why, I assume, Feather still makes the SE blades now. And sorry for not replying to your comment on my blog yet, Shaveaddict, it's been super busy here lately.
Well, I've seen them in stores sold for shaving, but on the website they recommend they should only be used for craft work.
That is why we have the SE blades with the cutouts that work in the valets then. Never knew that. Great information thanks, Fuzzy
Very cool! I thought you did too. You DID post about Feather copy of a Schick Injector, complete with Feather injector blades.
That Feather valet style razor is pretty neat! I would love to get my mitts on one. However, carbon steel blades would be great to come up with. If you have any luck Jim, I would be interested too! I will help you keep an eye out!!
I finally got the razor:love008 but i need those blades:sad023 I found that they were on sale therehttp://www.feather-shop.com/
Okay, time to reveal lack of knowledge. I've run across the term "auto strop" several times now. It sounds like it means a razor which somehow automatically strops the blade. Is that it, and if so, how does it work?
No, it doesn't strop automatically, u need to strop it yourself, but im not a specialist on those razors, i will let the ones who know more than me explain you.
Here you go, Dave made a video on how to use a Valet Auto-Strop razor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25-F9ZQp5Dg
So, does one turn the blade over for an auto-strop style razor in order to strop both sides, or does it not matter? By the way, that is a very nice looking razor.
