I recently ordered a 100 pack of Feather blades from the eBay seller Thailamps. Ive heard some concerns over counterfeit blades originating from Thailand based distributors; can anyone vouch for the authenticity of Thailamps' products/these blades?
That is where I get mine also. It takes about 3-4 weeks to get to me in Texas. It's the only blade I use now.
There are rumors of bootleg Feathers from Thailand. The thing is, bootleg blades really don't exist. If you have the means to create razor blades, then you'd likely make more money starting your own brand of blades. I think that rumor started because some Feathers come from Japan, others come from Thailand, and the Thai blades are a bit cheaper
There are bootleg Feather blades coming from China. All legit Feather blades come from Japan. They have different packaging black vs yellow, depending on the intended market.
I only use Feather DE blades, and I've purchased hundreds of them outside the U.S. I have read about fakes, but I've never seen one (to my knowledge) or read about a specific account of someone encountering one. They are meticulously packaged and sealed. I'd like to think I could spot a fake if I ran across one just by opening a sleeve, unwrapping a 10-pack, removing a blade, and then peeling off the wax paper. I don't discount the possibility of fakes. If someone could point us to a source with specific details, I, and I'm sure others, would greatly appreciate it.
I find your timing is off. Perhaps this question was better asked prior to an order? Otherwise, all this question seems to accomplish is the perpetuation of another urban, wives, fairy tale. I mean, how bad would a counterfeit Feather be if it actually existed? From where would this ellicit blade manufacturer hail? Pakistan? Egypt? Russia? Seems to me that while manufacturing a double edged razor blade isn't exactly a complicated endeavor, there'd be little profit in tooling up to crank out knock-offs.
Fakes don't have the "Feather" security print on the seal pull strip. Otherwise they are almost indistinguishable from the real thing...other than shaving like crap.
Until someone comes up with pics and documentation, I'm still calling it urban legend. It makes no sense to attempt to bootleg razor blades.
http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/199382-More-fake-blades-out-from-the-same-ebay-seller This thread has pictures of fake Gillette Rubie Platinum Plus blades, and if they are willing to fake Rubies, what makes you think they won't make fake Feathers? Especially when the profit margins on those would be correspondingly higher.
Unfortunately, it makes perfect sense. Bootleg one of the most expensive blades out there and get up to 0.40 USD per blade. Start your own company and you have to brand yourself and sell your product at average prices of $0.09 per blade. And the worst part is that these companies pump out these knock off blades at a fraction of the cost of the original companies and then flood the market.
I bought Feathers from that vendor and the were legit. The post office in Thailand is slow but faster than Russia.
