We have a fire place with a blower on it. It is great. I like the chore of having to get firewood, maintaining the fire, and not having to rely on the central heat to keep us warm. If we aren't careful it will be around 79 degrees in the house quick, and we'll be spending the rest of the night trying to cool down.
When I was a kid we had a fireplace and one of my chores was chopping firewood. It was a great workout but I certainly don't miss it. I have a gas fireplace now but never use it.
