Did my first cold water shave this morning. I must say it left me with a pretty good shave. I'm not sure I liked actually doing it though. I washed my face with cold water first then shaved with cold water. I'm wondering if I can do a cold wash first then shave with warm. I guess the reason it provides a close shave is that the cold water contracts the skin around the hair before it's shaved. Anyway, anyone else prefer the cold shave?
I do a cold h2o splash as my pre-shave prep, but use warm h20 to shave. I find the results about the same as when I do plain cold h2o. But the warm h2o shave is much more enjoyable. The warm brush on a cold face does feel good.
I did cold water shaving last summer and it really cut down on irritation while I was in my learning curve. Now I use warm water and get CCS without irritation, some reason hot water shaving gives me irritation every time.
I tried it once after reading several endorsements. It makes a lot of sense to reduce irritation and I used to use cold water exclusively when M3 shaving (after seeing it on "Good Morning Vietnam) but for some reason it just doesnt work for me using DE. Doesnt seem to give me as good a shave and pulls like crazy. Maybe it needs a different technique but for me it just shows every face is different.
Although the razor is pulling more with cold water, I get less iritation and a closer shave. I think that's because the hairs stiffen and don't flex as much as when hot and floppy.
I have limited experience and have not actually done a 'cold' water shave. But I have come to the conclusion that water is more important than temperature. I shower in comfortable water temperature before shaving in lieu of the hot towel prep, and I've taken to using warm water in my scuttle and the sink. Warm lather is comfortable for me, but too hot water in the scuttle and it breaks down. I think I am most comfortable with the shower first and warm water, not hot, during the shave.
I tried cold water shaving for a week, but it just didn't seem to work for me. But as a very wise man says, "It's your shave. Enjoy it your way." :happy088
I have been cold water shaving for a while. It works just fine and helps me cool off when it is hot out. I also don't have to spend 5 minutes waiting for hot water.
I've only tried it once and had a terrible shave. I chalked it up to the cold water and haven't tried it since. I didn't do any investigation so I may be wrong but it seems as if it works for many so I may revisit it.
I guess I am just old and set in my ways because I just can't see shaving with cold water when hot water is available. Obviously this works well for some people but the only way I will shave with cold water is if I am overnight by a trout stream and no hot water is available. I am not knocking cold water shaving I am just saying....
I love cold water shaves with Proraso preshave and aftershave splash, it definitely wakes you up in the morning.
I make the switch to cold water 5 or 6 weeks ago when there was a long thread here or across the way about it. Not sure it mattered much with the DE but with the Feather AC I could really notice an improvement. Just to be sure I tried switching back to warm water and the AC a couple of days this week. Now I'm back to cold for keeps.
Since I've started using some menth crystals mixed in my lather, I use a COLD water splash at the end and then stand in front of the fan!
I cold shaved and luke warm shaved enough in the Army to know my skin doesn't like it. Although I'm temped to try cold shaving with Proraso on these hot days :happy005
