OK. I ordered a Tabac bowl and refill from Perfumia. I tried the Tabac and I must say that I was disappointed. Lather wasn't all that great and the smell was not as pleasing as some of the others. I have been using Barrister & Mann Bay Rum as my go to soap. I felt the Tabac was on a level far below the Barrister & Mann and really below any other soap I have tried. I will, of course, try it again but for some reason I just don't like it.
Tough to beat the overall performance of Tabac soap, but the scent isn't for everyone. Some love it, others not so much.
I too just got mine on Tuesday and I've used it three times now. It lathers great to me. I don't know about slickness, but it lathers good. I enjoy the scent. Although it does remind of an old person scent.. Lol but I like it a lot.
Wow. Don't hear that too often. If there are complaints about Tabac, they are usually about the scent.
+1 ... i have a total crush on my tabac i sometimes sneak a trip to my den ... just to lift the lid from the jar and enjoy the aroma ... grabbing my jar of tabac is actually a line item on my "if my house ever catches fire" exit strategy ...
I should probably clarify that my experience is with the cream. I hear the soap and the frags both mellow out and develop a slightly milder, more pleasant floral aroma. I don't, necessarily, dislike the scent, it just reminds me of my Great Aunt Shirley.
I have a jar coming from that Perfumania sale, and honestly, I am scared. With scent descriptions like Great Aunt Shirley, rotting corpse of Bea Arthur, and Grandma's handbag, I am expecting I will have a PIF offering available in a couple of hours when the UPS guy shows up.
I love Tabac and B&M. I think the glissant base in B&M is actually better than Tabac, but I'll always have it in my den because I love the scent and it has a wide water tolerance - more than most soaps in my experience.
The gist I've gotten is that it's a more classic, traditional scent. Those don't always sit well on contemporary noses but will forever have fans - they're classic for a reason.
I've already contacted the OP if he decides he doesn't want his. I could wind up with quite a stock pile!
Just got mine. The scent wasn't anything to cheer about, but it certainly isn't bad enough to keep from using it. My wife smelled it and jumped all over the Grandma's purse scent description, but said if I didn't want it, she at least wanted to try it.
Tabac is one soap I'll not be without. I also have the deodorant stick, as balm, and the cologne. Signed: Your Aunt Shirley
