Well today I swapped the Merkur blade that came with my 34C out for a Shark Super Chrome. Not sure what I think yet. The tugging that I was getting with the Merkur is gone, but with my normal WTG and XTG passes I didn't achieve as close of a shave. I didn't want to venture onto a 3rd pass as I'm still learning and the one time I did that I ended up with some irritation and weepers. Not giving up on the Shark yet by any means. We will see what the next shave brings, maybe I was not on my game this morning. On another note, how does Aqua Velva compare to some of the face freeze you heavy menthol users experience? It was pretty invigorating for me this morning, more so that before for some reason.
Keep with it. I started with Shark SC blades and remember liking them, but haven't used them much in a year or so. Besides the scent (I may be in the minority, but no I do not like AV), the menthol is pretty mild. There is a considerable difference between AV and a kicked up product like TSD Iced Sub-Zero Witch hazel. Much more face freezing goodness and a much more pleasant scent.
Yep, Dale pretty much nailed it on the AV part, except for totally missing it on the scent part! Aqua Velva Rules!
Well I'm contemplating picking up some SubZero Witch Hazel. I don't really need another menthol A/S as I do enjoy the Aqua Velva. Still can't decide on soap vs cream from TSD as I only have experience with TOBS cream. Oh and I'm sure some M-Bomb might just fall into the cart... Seems weird to enjoy face freezing in the middle of winter.
Which TOBS cream do you have? I have sandalwood and the rose and the lemon lime........the rose is a decent scent but I left a bit in my brush overnight to make it smell a bit better....and man was I wrong....if theres a scent to describe as rotten roses that would be it....kinda turned me off of the rose for now...the sandalwood I do not like either its a funky smell to me that in no way to me does it remotely smell like what sandalwood should be.....IMO of course....however the lemon lime is pretty awesome I must say !! But honestly id go for a soap man...iv become a soap addict myself...I have TONS of creams but im much more fond of soaps now....dont know why exactly...but part of it is the nostalgic feel of whipping up a lather from a puck of soap.....and I honestly think IMO again that I get a better lather from soap quicker.....cream seems to annoy me when it comes to whippin up a thick lather I think my soaps do good for me in a bowl and my creams I usually end up face lathering.....the C.O. Bigelow is a very nice cream though I must say....between that and Omega its hard to choose but id probably end up choosing C.O Bigelow!!
Used a shark this morning in a new to me Gillette '04 type.?find that they can really vary from razor to razor. You may want to try the shark tomorrow in a different razor and see how it does.
I have the Mr. Taylors scent... I really don't know how to describe it. I was not sure when I first opened the tub if I was going to like it or not. It has grown on me though and I enjoy it now. This is what their site says about it. My unrefined nose isn't good at picking out these individual things. "A fresh fougere accord with herbaceous top notes of lavender, bergamot, green notes resting on a heart with geranium and soft green fern. The base of this fragrance is ambery with cedar, leathery, moss and musky. Contains cedarwood oil, Patchouli oil and Lavandin Grosso."
If I had another razor I certainly would. As I'm brand new I still just have the first one I bought which was the Merkur HD 34C. Hoping to be getting some more at some point. Not sure what the next logical step in razors is. I don't want something of inferior quality. I love the heavy steel of the Merkur.
That's not a practice I would recommend. I could be wrong, but leaving moisture (wet lather) to sit in a brush overnight just doesn't sound good for the brush.
Man i hope its not bad lol...Im not 100% but im almost 99% certain I was either told or seen on a thread in this site to do so...to get rid of the new brush smell...if im wrong my apologies but im almost certain I seen it on here...particularly for a boar brush I believe...I will try to go dig it up in any threads if possible if its even existant lol
Actually it was either on here or on a mantic video....im certain of one or the other! Lol I will find it hopefully
No apologies needed. I have no doubt you saw it somewhere. It's still not something that I, personally, would do. That doesn't mean I'm right, just cautious.
Bigelow cream is now on an after Christmas sale. But two get one free. Made by the same people that make Prorazo . At "bath and body works."
I used my first Shark SC less than a month ago, and so far I like them a lot. I plan on trying the other Sharks (SS?) before I commit to 100 though
AV is a nice initial exposure product methinks, for menthol anyhow. If you liked it, chances are you'll like more invigorating products such as ISZ et. al., and you can always get some menthol crystals and add your own. M-bomb is probably your best bet though as it is the utilitarian method of mentholating whatever you want. Like Dale pointed out though, its a love hate thing, AV, but you appear to fall into the love category. Enjoy your frosty journey my friend.
ISZ is TSD's Iced Sub-Zero scent of mint blended with menthol. You can get it in JoAnna's soap, cream, PSB (Pre Shave Balm), etc.
Heck, just admit it, there are some (I would guess many) of us that just like the little "Shark" picture. Nice colors. I think its pretty cool.
