as I said in a previous post, I doubt I could do a "no buy" for an entire year, unless I make what I might call a "Purchase On Steroids" on Dec 31 of the previous year. (Actually, this is my first mention of "Purchase On Steroids" lol)
I don't think switching pucks around will work too well. It isn't a super soft soap like a croap, but it is pretty malleable. I think it would be messy. I just put samples into small kitchen bowls and let them sit. They get used up fast enough that I've never had any kind of loss of scent problem. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Just got the sample in today and it'sjust like you said citrusy and complex faint wait to lather it up
Very nice, looking forward to reading your review. Glad you like the scent -- this one has moved up the ranks for me and is among my favorites.
It depends on how much soap you use, how many passes you do, and how often you shave. I have discussed this with numerous people before, and it is guesstimated that if your shave your whole face (e.g No goatee, beard or mustache...you are shaving the whole thing) with a 3 pass routine, and use an appropriate amount with an average amount if usage/waste...you could get 300 shaves. I would say with 8 tubs, you have about 10 years of soap.
Im a huge stirling fan. I have a ton of their stuff. If you are just beginning to get into their stuff, I recommend getting a kit. They have de starter kits that include a brush and razor (both are absolute top quality, by the way), along with several soaps and aftershaves. Their items are cost efficient anyway, but they drive the price down even further for these kits. If not buying a kit, I recommend samples. They are only $2.75 and last forever. They always...I repeat ALWAYS... give me free samples and cheap shipping too. I firmly believe that they are the best value in wet shaving. Don't forget their clearance bin, where you can get even deeper discounts. If..and when...you find a soap or aftershave that you fall for (and you will...with several, most likely), then buy a tub. You know you love it, and you will use it over and over. Until that point, you can certainly use the same tub...switching through multiple scents (the scent does NOT stay in the tubs if you wash them out).
I can vouch for the fact that the sample pucks from Stirling last a long time! My MITA was used almost exclusively until the weather turned cooler, and aside from the swirl marks looks untouched.
Whoa, that is serious! That is more than my very uneducated guess of ~100 shaves, but if one could get 300 shaves from one 5.8oz tub that is a ridiculous bargain. I am planning on a "no purchase 2017", so I'll get a better idea of this and will report back.
300 shaves is only around a half a gram per shave. I haven't spent a lot of time with the scale out, but when I have, I have used more like a gram and a half to two. Maybe I load too heavy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I am now really curious about this! Your post gave me the idea that my wife has a kitchen scale, nad I think I'm going to do a few before-and-afters just to gauge how much soap I use.
I already have their Barbershop Aftershave, and will order another soon.(but a different kind) I think I'll get some sample shave soaps as well.
I recently purchased pretty much all of the Stirling scents in aftershave sample form and asked my wife (who is very particular when it comes to the way I smell) to pass judgement. Even though there were many that we both enjoyed, there were only 3 that she totally approved of on me: Margaritas in the Arctic (my favorite btw), Arkadia, and Benjamin Franklin. Frankly (so to speak) I was surprised how much she liked the Ben Franklin. It has a vigorous clove note as can be found in many a bay rum. But - here's the rub - my wife can't stand the smell of bay rum! BF though has a much purer clovey character that leaves out the rest of the bouquet that one would find in a bay rum. It comes on strong at first, then dissipates into a nice masculine scent that is long lasting.
I use about 1/2 gram of stirling per shave for 3 passes. If you are using more, you need to work on your technique. Stirling is pound for pound, the BEST value in shaving...with tabac and klar nipping at its heels.
I use a minimal amount. If you want to make a "shave porn lather," then sure, you can use a gram or more, but it isn't necessary. I use only what it takes for the shave, no more no less
I agree with @Straight razor dandy I use around a half gram of Stirling per use and get a very thick 3 pass shave from it. a 5.8oz jar would last me right at 300 shaves.
