stopped by my local cvs today after work and bought a small aqua velva splash. i really like it. felt a little stinging but nothing overbearing at all. love the feeling it has on the face after a nice, clean shave. thinkin of trying out the clubman pinaud stuff too. i applied nivea balm after the splash. is applying a balm after a splash necessary ? or does it stand alone as the only aftershave treatment?
All depends on what products you use and what your desired end result is. Aqua Velva has glycerine in it so it has some moisturizing properties to it. If that isn't enough you can add a balm too. Clubman does not have glycerine in it, so your face may feel drier after using it.
Clubman has a lot more bite to it if you ask me. The smell of Clubman does seem to stick around all day though. Some people prefer balms, or more nourishing lotion type aftershaves during the winter season to protect the face from drying out. I have oily skin so I only use balms/lotions if I get bad razor burn. I agree with you though, Aqua Velva is my favorite right now, feels great and smells good.
So true, I put Clubman on at 6:00 am and can still smell it at 8:22 pm! Definitely has staying power.
x3 on the Clubman, my barber uses it and it 100% sticks with me all day where as the Aqua Velva only sticks around for a few hours but really has a nice feeling when applied.
I use Ice Blue on most days, but will throw on the Old Spice when I'm seeing my girlfriend because she loves the smell. I have some Clubman Special Reserve on the way. I loved the staying power of the Clubman sample I got with my Whipped Dog purchase.
For some reason Clubman after shave makes HUGE bumps under my skin. These are confirmed NOT pimples, I've done expiraments with it; the exact spot I dab on will make a bump How odd? I still love the stuff though, just have to use it lightly (aka no fun)
Using Clubman litely is the way to go my friend. Using too much is like napalm and you can clear a room with it.
Usually splashes irritate my face really bad. However, I tried putting on witch hazel and then some Floid Blue. I don't know if that helped or if Floid is gentle, but there was no burn.
You are probably slightly allergic to one of the things in Clubman Pinaud. The original Old Spice is a similar fragrance, have you ever tried that? Most people that like one, like the other.
I'm thinking of getting the clubman talc to put on after a shave instead; think it'll treat my skin better? Sorry to derail the thread OP!
I would try putting witch hazel on first, waiting for a minute or two and then applying the clubman. That or cutting the clubman with witchhazel in a 50/50 mix, before I would give up on it.
