i recently tried the Dorco ST-300 blade that came with a sampler pack. Because of the number of bad reviews, I used this blade last. Talk about save the best for last! The blade far and away is the most comfortable blade of all I have tried (Crystal, Astra Feather, Derby, Personna). Every other blade gives me weepers, but not this brand. Although the feel not nearly as sharp as the others, they are so smooth and forgiving. I have to make a couple of extra passes, but there is zero irritation and I get a perfect shave every time. I just can't believe how much more comfortable these blades are, and skin friendly. I was wondering about the ST-301? I need to order more blades, and was wondering if the 301 was as comfortable and forgiving as the 300. I'm probably make a small order of both just to be on the safe side, but in my experience, this blade is superb. The low price has nothing to do with my preference, and is just a bonus. I would actually pay more for these than other blades I've tried. Notably in comparison to other reviews, Derby's are just a vicious attack on my skin; would never use those again under any circumstances. I can't understand how anyone would not like Dorco. They deliver a superb close shave, with an unrivaled level of comfort and forgiveness. I no longer worry about weepers using this blade.
As always this is a YMMV thing, but I could not use the 300's, they felt very dull and caused a lot of pulling and tugging. To me, the 301's remind me a lot of a Derby blade, kinda middle of the road as far as sharpness goes. Sorry, but thats how I see it.
The Dorco 300s were also a good blade for me when I started. Extremely forgiving... With some more time, more blades, and more practice, I've found better blades for me but the Dorcos worked fine in the beginning.
I found the Dorco 300's to vary too much from blade to blade. The 301s are all like the best of the 300s to me, and just a hair sharper. It does depend on the razor, but they match well with my favorite Superspeed (and terrible in a Knack for me). Overall, the 301 is a well above average blade at a well below average price. While I don't use the 301 frequently, its one of a handful of blades I could use every day (though near the bottom of those).
I wasn't crazy about the 300. I won't buy them again. The 301, however, well...I bought a pack of 100 if that tells you anything!
If you like the ST300's I think you are going to love the ST301's. They are a little bit sharper, but they are also forgiving. I usually do not get any irritation or cuts from these where I get cuts from otherones that are sharper. This is my blades sequence: Red Pack ( If i am on a rush and want a fast great shave) Dorco (ST301) If I want a nice shave when I have time. You might want to get a couple before you buy a lot though! This would be the best option. . Have a great shave! Also, WHAT IS YMMV??? Sorry!
I actually love the Dorco ST-300 and ST-301. Anyone who wants please send yours to me. Or trade in bulk. Seriously.
The Dorcos are the very best blades for me, and I've tried anything I could get for quite some time. I've got a stock of several hundreds of them in my drawer. Don't want to take the risk of ever being without! It's funny to read the different opinions comparing the 300 Dorcos to the 301s. Some member over at B&B has contacted the company and asked about the difference between the two. He published the answering email on the forum. The only difference is the package. The 301s come in a plastic dispenser which makes them more expensive. The blades themselves are absolutely identical. Any difference in shaving is merely psychological, folks! Just because you pay more for an item, doesn't necessarily mean it's better!
Or perhaps the packaging effects the blades. :think002 Several of these people I'm seeing giving their opinions of the 2 kinds aren't the type to be razzled and dazzled by price.
FYI, I have direct contact with the Dorco Company, I have ask them about the quality of blades and they tell me that there is a difference. I first got an answer that it was the same blade, but later they told me that they are both different. I recently have asked if they can give me a laboratory spec sheet regarding the blades and they have agreed in a couple of months. I will inform you guys or post this information for you guys to see.
