Ever reach a point where you're torn? Part of you craves a shave but another part resents the idea and wants to see how long you can endure. You find yourself picking up clippers or an OC, weighing it in hand and mind, then slowly putting it down again. Ever been there?
I grew a beard several winters in a row until my beard started turning white in uneven patches. You always have to trim so it’s not like you’re not shaving at all.
I tried back in 2000 after I retired from the Air Force. I'm not hard core OCD, but not being able to get the lines even on my cheeks and neck made me give up on the beard. Haven't tried again since.
I keep the neck shaved from larynx down as that's where 95% of the itching is. That's about all, besides brushing it.
I’ve had beards periodically in the past, and always liked the look until my whiskers turned 99% white. Now if I don’t shave at least every other day I look like a bum. And besides, shaving is my 30 minutes of zen time.
@gorgo2, There's a reason all my avatars have beards and mustaches. I was clean shaven at my wedding. Since then, I've shaved my beard off only once since I married, and my mustache not at all. @swarden43, I'm not sufficiently CDO (putting the letters in alphabetical order) to stress about uneven edges of my beard. @chazt, I don't mind the white, it just reflects my age. After all, I have to do something to prove I'm eligible for my senior discount. Still, I do appreciate the 30 minute zen time.
Ha! I gladly accept a senior discount every time one is offered. Now… The first time I was given a senior discount was at a Dunkin Donuts one morning for a cup of coffee before heading in to work. At the time I bristled! I couldn’t have been more than 50 at the time. Fast forward to four days from now, and Medicare becomes my primary health insurance. Damn right I’m taking my senior discounts! But no early birds though.
Not me. One of the main reasons I got into DE shaving in the first place was my face getting so irritated in the winter. I usually wore a scratchy annoying goatee/mustache combo during the coldest months. Now I happily stay clean shaven year round….
I grow a beard every winter now that my time in service has ended and no one, except my sweet wife, can object. I miss a full shave at times and my beard is a mix of white and gray, but it will stay until March or April. Do shave the top of my cheeks and my neck.
I shave the neck and top of my cheeks about twice a week. I've had some sort of facial hair pretty much constantly since I turned about 20 and just turned 60 last month.
Grow a beard? I can't even grow hair on the top of my head! I'll settle for what sprouts out of my eyebrows, ears, and nose.
2015 was the year i grew a full beard for well over a year.mountain man beard ensued,my next shave was my newly acquired g-1? fatboy.first DE shave.
See, that's what I'm talkinabout. I had you pegged as the tall rugged-looking man with a thick mustache walking into a barbershop in the AGADIRMEN video. Everyone dropped their newspapers and looked at the guy in awe. Course I didn't know then what you look like
I can grow a really nice beard. But, the upkeep on it is a pain. Always trimming the edges. Always trimming the length. Daily beard oil, so it doesn't go crazy, and look like an Afro on my face. And now, a little coloring, because about 50% is gray, whey my head has very very little. It's the women in my family who convince me to do it, every time. My lovely daughter says she likes my beard, because it covers up more of my face. She's a joker. Or is she?
