Oh, yeah! I'm not seeing any feathering . What kind of paper are you using? After a Google search for the best paper for fountain pens, Rhodia seemed to come up on everybody's list. I've picked up a few of the A5 top spiral bound to use for my Bible Study and Sermon rough drafts. I like to hand write those, with a fountain pen, of course, then finalize on the computer to print them out. The notebooks just came in; getting ready to start in on my sermon. I'll let you know what I think of the paper afterwards.
I use a fountain pen for my bullet journal, specifically I use this one: https://www.gouletpens.com/collecti...cts/jinhao-x750-fountain-pen-shimmering-sands I also got this silly one for anytime I have to sign anything formal: https://www.gouletpens.com/products/jinhao-993-shark-fountain-pen-dark-blue I'm currently using up some ink cartridges I purchased years ago, but am planning to buy some bottled soon. Anyone have recommendations for a nice purple ink?
@Avalon Ink? I'm liking the Private Reserve - rich, bold, dries pretty quick, not much shading (that's a plus for me). https://www.gouletpens.com/collections/private-reserve?offset=48 https://www.penchalet.com/ink_refills/fountain_pen_ink/private_reserve_ink_60ml.html Save your ink cartridges when they're empty; they can be reused. I refill 'em with a syringe. https://www.penchalet.com/ink_refills/fountain_pen_ink/private_reserve_ink_60ml.html https://www.gouletpens.com/products/goulet-5ml-ink-syringes?variant=11884650168363
the paper i used for that photo is a coated low quality paper, given during an Airbus conference. the coating is so good that it is my favorite paper rhodia is good but it is expensive in Turkey. I found several local paper companies, with cheap coated paper. they work so far. If you are in the USA, jetpens and gouletpens should help you to choose good paper
i just wanted to share some inks i recently bought. KWZ honey is really impressive.nice shading, good flow, and as a surprise to me it smells like vanilla the paper i used is rhodia (white), sorry for the white balance
Do you find using the syringe easier and less messy than a converter? I’m retired now, and want to get back into fountain pens, but not really expensive ones. I started with a Lamy Safari, and a couple that were less expensive than the Safari. The Safari works well, but dipping the nib into an ink bottle with the converter can be a little messy.
Yes, less mess. Just be sure to save the old cartridges. Suck up some ink from the bottle into the syringe, squirt it into the cart, there you go. Squirt any leftover ink in the syringe back into the bottle.
@BamaT Glad to help. I have several Lamy Safaris. Love 'em. Not sure how you define inexpensive, but Pelican pens write nice and smooth. Have fun!
You might want to look for a Sheaffer snorkel (vintage). https://www.penhero.com/PenGallery/Sheaffer/SheafferSnorkel.htm
Here’s a neat device for filling your fountain pens. I use one: it works quite well https://www.fahrneyspens.com/Item--i-250317
That looks interesting. Have you used a syringe, and if so, is the snorkel less messy than even a syringe? It kind of looks like it may be the cleanest.
i live in turkey, and using several local stationary shop or website. assuming you live in the usa, i suggest you to check gouletpens and jetpens for fountain pen and inks.
if you are looking for cheap reliable pens, you may want to check - twsbi, nibs are made by jowo. simple design awesome quality for the price. - pilot metropolitan, japanese fine and medium nibs. - jinhao x750 and a #6 nib from gouletpens. nib in jinhao can be replaced and gouletpen nibs (jowo).
