So SWMBO and I are sitting around, watching NFL and just hanging out... Meanwhile, she is whipping up another batch of her bread...WOW! I am the luckiest guy in the world! I know I petitioned for Bacon Shave Soap...but I take it back! I want Fresh Baked Bread Shave Soap! OMG! I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful the house smells, nor how wonderful this bread tastes!
Oh man! I can smell that aroma wafting into my nose when I look at the picture. My wife does home made bread too, when she makes the BIG dinners. Yummy!!
Did you use a bread maker? I make a beer bread that I can't stand. Everyone else likes it but I don't. The top is very hard and crusty and I don't like the flavor.
Nah, flour, water, shortening, sugar and yeast, I don't think there were eggs in there... The dough sits out for 3 hours, gets punched down, divided into two pans, sits for another 2 hours, then bakes for an hour with butter poured on the top at some point. The bread has a nice, plain white bread taste, with a hint of yeast and a slight sweetness.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh I love the smell of fresh bread outta the oven! My grandparents used to make fresh bread all the time, when I would get home from school I would slice 1/3 of the loaf in thin slices and make garlic bread for a snack. Gonna sound crazy here but if you make French bread and pinch off a chunk of dough, chew it like gum and it is simply delightful. It wont dissolve and has a great yeasty taste. YUM!
damm you may be the luckiest guy in the world haven't had home made bread like that probably in 30 years
You're really lucky indeed! My father's a learned baker, one of my best buddies has owned a bakery for decades until he retired, I worked three years in a row in a bakery during the school-holidays so, naturally, I too bake. Every saturday I'm making bread and rolls and brezen (pretzels) and stuff like that for my family, for my grandparents and my aunt. All traditional, handed-down professional recipes baked in a professional oven with flour and other ingredients from small, local farmers and companies. Far superior in taste and feel to the chemical-laden stuff you get in supermarkets or even at bakeries today!
Awhile back, I posted this thread. I have been on the bacon train before the tracks were built, and hopefully some day, there will be a TSD Bacon Soap...
Thanks Bill, and all ya'll; SWMBO is blushing every time I tell her about the bread post. I keep encouraging her to join TSD, but she insists that she does not want to get involved in my shave life and show me up.... But then she forgets that she has co-opted all my gear...
I'm a bread maker for our family too. Got tired of thee cardboard tasteless stuff from the grocery store and started making our own loaves. I use a Kitchen Aide Professional mixer and usually make 2 loaves per week.
