I recently discovered that my mother has my grandfather's old Fuller brush in a display case, along with the mug he used for shaving. From appearances, I'd guess it's a boar (or a synthetic), though the knot is loose - it rattles - and in need of replacement. Who else has, or had, a Fuller brush? What would folks recommend for the reknot?
So, apparently the takeaway here is "Don't start a thread about a brush re-knot unless you have a functioning web camera." Duly noted.
Surely just a bit of friendly chop busting... I had a Fuller handle awhile back, reknotted with a synthetic. It was a great brush, if you like synthetic. Boar would be a good choice and maybe more authentic. I am not a fan of horse. Edit to add pic.
Yeah, it's all in fun. I voted boar for authenticity if it will fit, synthetic would be my second choice and TGN finest badger third.
Yes, my post was all good natured fun. I voted for boar, but it may depend on what the handle looks like. The knot in stingraysrock pic goes very well with the handle. An undyed boar knot just may not look good in the handle.
It's in a display case, not being used? Leave it alone. It's probably got grandpa's DNA on it. When human cloning becomes something you can get from a 3D printer kiosk at the grocery store...like renting a Red Box movie...you and Grandpa 2.0 can put a new knot in it together.
I have a brush just like the one to the extreme left, long white handle, & slightly oval in shape. (below the Z shaped one with the blue handle) I've always had trouble getting it to lather, and it's scratchy as hell. But it's a genuine Fuller, so I don't complain. Erik, what a fantastic idea! You've arranged these left to right by "ease of lathering", right?
Brush on the far right is a Fuller restore in Butterscotch. It has a 24mm synthetic knot, but wish it were a finest.
For what it's worth, that's the handle, though the one available to me is faded almost beyond reading. The knot itself is all one cream/white color.
