Many of us Wet Shavers strive for the penultimate shave and we hold out our champion razor and blade combination in the highest esteem and sing the praises and virtues of that lofty combination that delivered just what we expected and we share with our compairtiates the esoteric secrets that delivered the ultimate BBS of a lifetime, explaining away the cost and inconvenience of using our favorite whisker removing machines because of the results they achieve, but I would like to now sing the praises of my all-time favorite the lowly, humble and most of all inexpensive of vintage razors the Gillette Ball-End Tech! Yes the back in the day $1.95 cheapie, inconsequential, almost disposable 3 piece Tech is my favorite razor. Yes, yes I know that I started The Soviet Super Shavers (SSS ☭), and have talked-up my SE and injector razors, but this mildmannered and unassuming little razor is the bomb! If I was stuck on an islands with nobody but Wilson to talk to and was given the choice of any razor in the whole wide world this with a tuck of Rapira Platinum Lux blades would be it! NO JOKE! If you never have given this baby second look and have a small inclincling to explore I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by this often passed-over humble shaver! Let me know how it goes if you do.
There speaks a man who has never had the pleasure of using a fat handled tech, or for the penultimate pleasure, a flat bottomed tech. (Ok, so I've never used a flat bottomed tech either, but I can dream, right?) Edit: I do have a tech, and a ball end new long comb. One of these days I'll dig them out of storage and combine their powers. Edit 2: I suppose the Wolfman would be the ultimate Tech, since it's basically a stainles steel flat bottomed tech.
Just cause you get above your raisin' and spend a bunch of money on a silly copy of a razor does not mean you get better shaves with it. Bravo for braving the wrath of the snooty and showing love for the basic!!
It is a classic well working design for every day shaving. I have had most success with converting people to wet shaving with Tech clones (newbies are a bit afraid of razors other people have used).
You guys do know that "penultimate" means "last but one" or "second to last", right? I think you meant "ultimate". But I agree that in shaving expense does not necessarily equate to quality or efficiency.
Thanks for the grammar tip the intended meaning I was going for was as you discerned, was indeed " utter supreme". I'm glad you pointed that out.
There's always something better. It's the same logic that gave us six bladed cartridges. It works on us DE guys too.
"Really excellent"? I'm sure it's a great one, but had the Parker people said "Kind of excellent", or "A litte bit excellent", it'd still be the same . (I'm the son of a law professor and a remedial reading teacher....they installed writing and word usage on me.)
Ever razor I buy is with the thought that it is the ultimate but it always end up as the penultimate.
