Several months ago @jmudrick sent me his Gibbs to see if I could fix it. The handle was broken. Well I set it aside until last week. I had an extra piece of carbon fiber tube. I wanted to make the handle from that. I needed to make a brass threaded connector. I did so and put it on the razor. The old handle weighed in at 4 grams. The carbon weighed in at 6 grams. New handle It looks nice but I found the razor to be too top heavy. So today a made a full brass one. It weighs in at 20 grams. Old total weight was 72 grams. New weight with brass handle 92 grams. It feels much better in the hand now. My only dilemma now is. Do I leave it brass or Gun Kote Black. Jeff what do you want? Tom Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Yes I think Black would replicate the original look. I will leave it to Jeff to decide. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
No idea. Anybody with a Rex know the weight. I can tell you this Gibbs is a nice simple piece of engineering. Very impressed. Too bad I am not into DE razors. If I was I would get one in a heart beat if it shaves as nice as it is made and looks. I will take it for a test run once it is all dialed in for @jmudrick Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I looked it up. The Rex Ambassador is 106g and claims to be balanced right below the adjustment dial.
Good info. The Gibbs with the heavy brass handle is right behind the adjuster. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Just too cool Tom. This fixes the problem that led me to prefer the metal handled №16 to the Adjustable, the balance issue. Bravo. Gunkote black I guess would appropriate, sure.
I was going to use it yesterday, but I did not like the balance. So I made the brass one. I will get it all coated up this weekend for you. Then post a few pictures wit a shave report. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Well done Tom. The need to mod blades has kept me from using mine very often. It is a really nice shaver though.
Lol no worries I’ve pushed my luck with you as it is.. it came out great though. Very cool I can’t wait to see how it looks black
