This is claimed to be an Aristocrat Jr. by the enclosed instruction sheet, but it definitely is a 50-year anniversary (of Gillette's founding in 1901) razor -- and is a real beauty. One of those rarely seen and wonderfully preserved 60-year old TTO DEs. Seems to be gold anodized -- so the finish is more matte than shiny with a lacquer coating. This is one of those classics that was never used, but stored away for 60 years, and now in my collection. 29 gram aluminum body with a unique case that stores the razor securely. Except for that break on the case, it is a totally mint item. You can see how the finish is anodized rather than the usual lacquer shine. Somehow it's always the gold Gillettes that are among the most rare and when well-preserved, the most classy.
That is a very nice razor, and I agree that the gold Gillettes are the most classy. They seem to be much more fragile too, I believe because the plating is so thin. I just picked up a very nice cased D1 toggle and I worry about the plating if I use it too much. Thanks for sharing all of your rare finds
