Are there differences between the Gillette 7 O'clock blades in the black, yellow, and green packaging?
One of them is made in Russia and the other is made in India. Also the difference between the super platinum (black pachage), permasharp stainless (green package) and the sharpedge (yellowpackage). Also I found this Seven O'Clock Sharp Edge Yellow: made in Dubai, UAE. Seven O'Clock Permasharp Stainless Green: made in Bhiwadi, India. Seven O'Clock Super Platinum Black: made in Bhiwadi, India. Seven O'Clock Super Stainless Green ( not Permasharp): made in St. Petersburg, Russia. Seven O'ClockSuper ...
I have used all three and I find the yellow to be the smoothest, but they only last me for maybe 3 to 4 shaves. The black are almost as smooth, but I can get 6 to 7 shaves from a blade. I only had one tuck of the green, so I can’t really speak to longevity, but they were very smooth. Either way, they are very nice blades.
Been awhile since I used then. There was not enough difference for me to worry about. They all are good blades.
I only like the Russians: Gillette 7 O’Clock Green Super Stainless Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow Sharp Edge Gillette 7 O’Clock Blue Super Platinum (discontinued) IMHO, the Blue's are the best, followed by the Green and Yellow. The Yellow is sharper than the Green, but I seem to get a better shave from the Green. As always, YMMV! Indian Versions
I didn't notice much difference between the blues and blacks. On another forum there was a thread with supposed insider information claiming that once the blues were discontinued, they were repackaged as the GSB. True or not, I don't know but I also don't notice much difference between the two blades.
I believe the GSB's have a teflon coating vs. the 7 O'Clock Blue's platinum? Sometimes it is hard to tell, but the 7 O'Clock Blues perform better for me than the GSB's. I like and use both.
Been a while but recall I found the 7 O'clock black green and yellows close in sharpness but not newly as smooth as GSBs. GSBs are my base go to blade w R41 Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Tapatalk
I've only used the yellow SharpEdge and they were very nice. I won't buy them because there are blades just as good for a lot less, but they are very nice blades.
I have never used any of Gillette 7 O'Clock blades. I use a different blade I use Wilkinson Sword when I use my DE Razors. Weber/Above the Tie. Or any of my TTO DE Safety Razors.
There will be many opinions here and you will find that only you and your face will know when you've found a the "right" blade. As others have said, mostly it is a difference in where they are manufactured. I have used Yellows, Greens and Blacks. For me, the Blacks are the smoothest of that bunch and last the longest. But, I felt that the Yellows were the sharpest. I thought the Greens were OK. The OP's question was about 7 O'clocks, but when it comes to Gillette blades, I have to throw down for Silver Blues. I am a GSB user/lover and those trump all of the 7 O'clocks for me. But, that's just me. Do the sample thing. Maggard's and others are wonderful for this.
I have several tucks of GSBs. As readers of my posts know, I never get a decent shave, but GSB's serve me better than most.
Has anyone tried these blades meaning any of them, in a Above the Tie Close Comb, R1-M1-H1 razor head? I use in my Weber mostly Wilkinson Sword Classic DE Blades White container, but I also use Astra Superior Platinum DE. Just a thought.
