This one is a two part question . Whats the diffrence between the green and yellow Gillette 7 O'Clocks? and ... anyone got any hands on with these blades in a ej89l ?
Two varieties of green 7 O'Clock blades exist: Super Stainless (St. Petersburg) and Permasharp (India). I've only tried on Super Stainless (it was a freebie) so I can't comment on quality for the green varieties. I will say I really like the yellow (Sharp Edge) variety, but haven't purchased any in bulk as I've found some less expensive blades I like equally well. Last thing to add is that you can also find a black variety (Super Platinum)
I have used the 7 O'clock green wrapper in a DE89L, and it did not work well at all. The shaves were not close at all and were irritating. Rather surprising given that this blade worked very well for me in a Merkur 34C. The 7 O'clock yellow wrapper in the Merkur gave shaves that were average at best, along with moderate irritation. I have not tried the 7 O'clock yellow in the DE89L yet, though.
There is also an additional variety of the 7 O'clock green, this one with a green and white wrapper. These blades were awful, giving really rough shaves and irritating as all getout. The only place I have seen them is in a local Indian grocery store.
I have not tried the other 7 Oclocks but I can say that the Yellows are some of my favs, they don't seem to last long but I do get 3 solid BBS, Smooth shaves. both with my 89l and Futur.
I had my first shave with the yellow recently, it was the worst shave to date. I may revisit they few remaining in the pack at a later time, but I am expecting there will be blood.
I prefer the blacks (the ones from the India plant, not the Russia plant...there are two varieties of 7 O'clock blacks). The yellows are a very close second for me, and I did not care for the greens at all.
Fixed for you Yellows are Russian, as are the Green 'Super Stainless' and run out of the St Petersburg Productions factory (Part P&G owned) Blacks are Indian, along with the Green 'Permasharp'. I don't know which factory they come from there. I've never seen any blacks out of St Petersburg, although there were some that were called "7 O'Clock Platinum" in a blue box, some called them 7 O'Clock Blues. I did not see them much, but I believe they were the Russian equivalents of the Blacks IIRC. Some swear by the Blacks, Others say the Yellows are better. As always, YMMV. The Indian Permasharps were universally liked over the Russian Super Stainless until recent times when the Indian Greens became less plentiful. Most sellers stock the Russian blades.
The Indian 7 O'clock Super Platinums are great blades for me, but are rather pricey. I'm not a huge fan of the yellows. I have come to prefer the Voskhod Teflon blades to both of the 7 OC offerings Ive tried.
I have bought some Voskhod blades too. They are a good, smooth feeling blade that reminds me somewhat, of Super Iridium.
