Just bought a pack of Gillette 7 O'clock sterling DE razor. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1373389298.297136.jpg

Along with it bought two extra blades ( one blade comes with the pack. ) of different brands. A wilkinson sword (gilette) and SuperMax(vidyut).

The razor has a plastic handle ( medium weight), a base and hood of metal. It does not feel very heavy.

    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1373389837.597013.jpg

It came with a free 7O'clock super platinum blade. This blade is pretty sharp And has decent durability (medium coarse beards about 10 shaves).

The other blade is a SuperMax made in India. This also has a nice bite however tends to last lesser. ( about 6 shaves) but is 50 percent the price of Gillette.

The third is a Wilkinson Sword a Gillette product. This is an aggressive blade and lasts long. Most expensive of the lot.

The total set (razor and 2 additional blades) cost about 110 rupees( Indian) which at current exchange rates is close to $2 or £ 1.20.

Parting thought - Gillette can't let go any marketing opportunity. The inside of the wilkinson sword blade cover has an advert for Gillette vector a twin blade cartridge razor.

This is my first post on this forum.

The Gilette 7 O'Clock Sterling is available in India for Rs 100 without postage.

Difficult to find, the razor is extremely good for the price.

Currently $1 = Rs 65. So for $10 you should be able to buy about 6 of these.

They are 3 piece razors with the top 2 components of metal and the handle of plastic, but with a metal thread.

Blade position is reasonably good and consistently reproducible. Head is small and almost flattish, hence it is easier to get under the nose than my TTO Feather Popular 800 - 1B.

Build is good for the price and it should last a few years.

The razor is pretty mild, so I consider it good for beginners getting into DE.

I would say it is a wee bit more aggressive than my Feather Popular 800-1B, considered by many on forums to be the mildest of all razors.

Excellent give-away to initiate friends / relatives into DE in an inexpensive manner.

I am currently using this after the Feather Popolar 800-1B to work myself up the mild to aggressive ladder before I acquire a Merkur. I guess it would save my skin, quite literally.

Apparently there is one major manufacturer in India and if the grapevine is reliable, these guys even make the Gilette blades for them. I would not know personally but there is not much to choose in quality between any of the Indian blades between brands.

These are Saloon Pack (50 pieces) prices that i get from the wholesalers at (Babubhai, Parel TT, Mumbai, India)

Dollar ~ $1 for 50 Blades. (With a tough beard, no of shaves recommended -2)

Wilkinson Sword - $ 1.25 for 50 Blades. (With a tough beard, no of shaves recommended -3)

Zorrik - $ 0.90 for 50 Blades. (With a tough beard, no of shaves recommended -2)

Gilette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum - $ 3 for 50 Blades. (With a tough beard, no of shaves recommended -3)

Feather (Japan) $ 2 for 10 blades or $1 for 5 blades. (With a tough beard, no of shaves recommended 4 - 5)

Well, it seems the blade that comes with the razor is what is called a "Gillette black" which is one of the best of the Gillette blades. The Wilkie is of Indian Origen and is just ok. Not as good as the German Wilkies in my opinion. I have never tried the Supermax Stainless shown. I have had some degree of success with various Supermax products.

This is the Indian Version available in very few select places. The blade included is a Gilette 7 O'Clock Platinum.
I picked this up last week for Rs 100.. ($1 = Rs 65 Approximately Today)

My friend had 303 Grade Stainless Steel handles of 11cm X 1 cm made for this razor and gifted me one. This is a little longer than the original handle.
It provides much needed heft and transforms a reasonably decent razor into a fairly good one.
By really tightening the handle the blade gap can be reduced a little beyond what the plastic-aluminium handle managed. I would highly recommend using a heavier handle with this razor. The thread being standard, any handle from an old razor would do.

    *****UPDATE******

The cheapest way to get a good heavy standard handle is to buy a RiMei 3-Piece razor and use the handle. The heads are too mild and shave unevenly on the two sides, and therefore can be put away.

    Hi, Welcome!

The best blade really depends on you. There are a lot of different blades out there because they all work differently on different faces. Usually people buy different ones to try out, so I'd suggest buying those 4 (and others if you can!) and give them all a try.

I'm sorry, no. Like I said, the best blade depends on you. All faces and beards are different, as are our perceptions of our own faces and beards. Also, most people think they have a thick beard when they actually don't. The only thing you can do is try different blades and find which works for me.

No blade that's been recommended to me has ever been anything that actually works for me. That's usually how it goes.

The Gillette 7 O'Clock Sterling (Rs 70- 95) is a cheap decent razor to start with. A higher version is the Japanese Feather Popular 800-1B model (Rs 650- 700).
    **********
    Blades :
    ----
Supermax Family. All blades are smooth and good value for money:

Supermax Platinum Plus- Smooth and sharp with reasonable price. My favourite (White packaging with light blue labelling ) Difficult to find. Rs 13.50 per 5 pc
Zorrik Platinum is decent. Easily available. Rs 15 per 10 pc.
Vidyut Supermax Yellowand Brown is ok ok. Rs 13 per 10 pc. Very easily available.
    ----
    Gillette Family.
Gillette 7O'Clock Superplatinum Black. Good but very expensive. Rs 45-48 for 5pc.
Gillette 7O'Clock Permasharp Green. Very popular but I found them rough. Expensive. Rs 43 for 5 pcs
    Gillette Wilkinson Sword. Average.
    ----
    Imported:
Feather Stainless from Japan. Rs 60 for 5. World's Best blades. Better value than the Gillettes.
Dorco ST301 Red Pack. Better than the Gillettes. Rs 25 for 10. Excellent value. Dont buy the Dorco Blue ST300.
Wilkinson Sword British made. Rs 60 per 5 piece. Good and sharp. Long lasting. Feather and Dorco are better value
