Hi : I have been reading on the forum for some time and have been useing DE razors for about 6 mo. I really like the old ball end Gillettes, and wonder if someone can help date one that I have?? It is a three piece with the two round studs that go thru the blade and the back piece, the only thing on it is on the back of the back part there is the Gillette diamond with arrow and across on the other end is made in the USA also it has the short comb, There is nothing on the handle no pat. date. Can the date be narowed down to any one decade? this is like the one that my dad used many-many years ago and I also learned to shave with his. I Went to throw aways several years ago and just became tired of the expense of the blades for them Found I can shave for about 1 year for what throway razors cost for 1 month. I also have I also have a long comb with the ball it has a Pat date on the handle of January 13, 1920. I have other Gillette razors but these two are the ones I use the most. When I use the 1920 razor I am shaving with a razor that is 19 years older than I am. Thanks for any help anyone can give about the date.
Welcome to TSD! Since there's no serial number on it and it has blade pins, it was made between 1921 and 1928 and that's about as close as you can get without having the original blades that came with it as during this time, only the blades got a date code. Have a look at this page here: http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Old Type/Old Type.htm Do you see your razor? The long comb ball end you have was made sometime in the 1930s if it looks like this one. Also, don't go by any patent date markings. That just means when Gillette received their patent for the razor. It doesn't mean the razor was made that year.

Hi! Welcome to the Den. So have you figured out the date yet? We'd all love to seem some pics, too, if you can.
Thanks to all. Yes the help from all of you has been great do not know about the pictures this computer and myself do not get along. I have seven Gillette razors, all picked up from EBay for very good prices so nothing fancy the two ball end razors the handles had cracked one on just one end the other on both ends. it did not take long to repair with a propane torch. One is a TTO dated K 2 I gave to my son along with a shave mug, brush, soap and blades he too was tired of the prices for throw away. I did not know how much bettet the shave could be, every day when I shave I think it can't get any better.(BUT) today was even better than yesterday. Thanks again for the help. W.
