I saw this at Above The Tie and I decided to add another unique razor to my collection. It is a "Chrome" toggle just like on the Mr Razor site but it is in gold. It is original condition but no case. Here are pictures of it. Notice the wear on the toggle, the unique blade gap adjuster and the lack of a red dot.
This is the "Chrome" Toggle from Mr Razor. Mine seems identical but in gold. Look at the base plate where the razor blade sets into. Unlike a Fatboy or a Bottom Dial or a standard Toggle. I'm not even sure how the blade gap changes on this razor when you turn the knob; what happens? I'll see when I get my hands on it.
I only have a like three or so razors left till I have one of each type of all of the Gillette Adjustables. And only one expensive one left. I'll just have to eat beans for a while because of this collection.
I saw that on Stan's site...should have pulled the trigger dang it. Congratulations! I picked up a replated 1914 Gillette bell tip Aristocrat from Stan. He is really nice to work with.
I don't know yet. I have a standard D1 Toggle too so when I receive the "Chrome" Toggle (in gold), I'll also compare the toggle lengths and let you know.
Thanks guys. I can't believe how my collection of adjustable Gillette's is all coming together. I have been really lucky to find all the various models.
Glenn's NOTEs: 1) There are 15 versions not 14. There is a 9 terminus Gold Toggle Non-Red Dot too which I have. 2) What this translation calls stainless steel is really nickle plated brass. 3) What this translation calls 5 speed is really 5 terminus with 9 positions - there are 5 numbers and 4 1/2 positions. 4) The names in parenthesis at the end of Mr Razors descriptions are mine. Mr Razor lists the 14 adjustable models in his eBay advertisements (in German). Here is a Google translation: Adjustable gives it in 14 versions: 8.5 cm stainless steel design with a thicker grip (Standard Nickle Fatboy) 8.5 cm stainless steel design with a thicker handle and a red dot on the dial (Red Dot Nickle Fatboy) 8.5 cm stainless steel design with a thicker handle, collar on the handle end 5-speed (5 terminus Nickle Bottom Dial 195) 8.5 cm stainless steel design with a thicker handle, collar on the handle end 9-speed (9 terminus Nickle Bottom Dial 195) 8.5 cm golden Executive version with a thicker grip (Executive Gold Fatboy) 9 cm stainless steel (Standard Nickle Slim) 9 cm golden Aristocrat execution (Aristocrat Gold Slim) 9.5 cm stainless steel shaving head with a black aluminum handle (Super 84 Black Beauty (short)) 10 cm golden toggle design with “knee-opening mechanism” 5-step (5 terminus Gold Toggle) 10 cm golden toggle design with “knee-opening mechanism” nine-step (9 terminus Gold Toggle) Toggle 10 cm stainless steel design with “knee-opening mechanism (9 terminus Nickle Toggle Non-Red Dot) 11 cm stainless steel shaving head with a black aluminum handle (Super 109 Black Beauty (long)) 11 cm stainless steel shaving head (underside of plastic) with a black aluminum handle (Super 109 Black Plastic Base) 11 cm gold shaving head with a black aluminum handle (Super 109 Black Beauty Gold)
I realize it's a rhetorical question but fun to answer in any case. I still need: Super 84 Black Beauty Short - No problem Super 109 Black Beauty Long - No problem Red Dot Nickle Fatboy - No problem 9 Terminus Nickle Toggle Non-Red Dot - Tough 5 Terminus Gold Toggle - Impossible 5 Terminus Nickle Bottom Dial 195 - Impossible Mr Razor still needs: 5 Terminus Gold Toggle 5 Terminus Nickle Bottom Dial 195 9 terminus Gold Toggle Non-Red Dot
I just received my "Gold Non-Red Dot Toggle". I'm not going to call it a "Chrome" Toggle in Gold anymore. Mr Razor needs to rethink what he calls his nickle toggle of the same model. Here it is compared to a D1 Red Dot Toggle. Notice the differences. 1) Obviously there is no red dot. There is a black stop pin corresponding to the position adjustment. 2) There are no notches cut out of the blade gap base that the razor blade rests on. 3) There is only one black collet not two. 4) The toggle is shorter. I have extensively gone over the Gold Non-Red Dot Toggle with a jeweler's loupe. The plating and detail are flawless which means this is razor is NOT a "Chrome" Toggle that has been re-plated in gold. Re-plated razors are easy to detect with a jeweler's loupe because there is either a loss in detail and/or old plating that gets recovered which shows up as bumps. So this is the only known Gold Non-Red Dot Toggle while there are a few Nickle Non-Red Dot Toggles known to exist.
Thanks for the education! There are a few Toggles on the bay now so was looking at the history. Nice collection you have and congrats on getting that new one I saw you post about in another thread!
You can check out "My Collection" in my signature. It has a lot of my razors. Here is one I got recently not pictured:
