There's an article in a British newspaper about how much profit Gillette make on every Fusion blade they sell. Sharp practice? The razor heads that cost just 5p to make, but sell for £2.43 each Ouch!
5p is worth about 7 or 8 cents. A british pound is roughly a dollar fifty. Great article! Thanks for sharing!
They are twice the price in Europe currently nearly 19 Euros for 4 rather than 9 for 4 in the UK and GBP was near parity with the Euro recently, may still only be at 1.10. Tesco in the UK were selling Personna Matrix3 8 packs for 2.60 recently so I bought a few plus Pace 6 blades in Sainsbury's (both UK supermarkets). The Personna Magnum M5 has not been released in the UK.
eesh. it's all too expensive for me, when a 5 pack of the personna red pack cost me less than a dollar. (I buy in bulk)
Well I bought some Apollo DE's for 4.95 euros for 5, and currently Etos are selling 8 xspec3 cartridges for 5.01, so DE's are not always cheaper, but HEMA sells Bond Israel DE's (ASR/Personna) for I think under 2 euros
absolutely. a pack of Feather DEs + shipping cost more than some cartridges in my area, and some brands of SEs are right up there with 'em. It all depends on your tastes and your budget.
I've always known they were charging way above what is needed for those cartridges. Just glad I don't use them any more since I found the Personna M5. For $12 I have enough blades to last till next February. And I'm not putting any of my hard earned funds into the already bloated pockets of Roger Federer or Tiger Woods.
Large profit margins is the reason why they give out free razors in the first place. In countries where other brands, DE razors or barber shops are more popular, Gillette markets the Fusion or the Mach3 as a premium razor.
