Preparing for tomorrow’s dome shave, I broke out my Gillette OT Big Fellow dated to the fourth quarter of 1920, and loaded it with a Gillette 7 O’Clock Green DE Russian blade. I always used to enjoyed shaving my face with this razor and only used it on my dome three or more years ago. I now face shave with a straight. I have really enjoyed this razor and much prefer it to the smaller OT’s in my den. Looking forward to my dome shave tomorrow morning. How do any of you with this razor feel about it as a shaver?
I like them, enough to acquire a few. For me, it's about bringing back a razor that had been shelved for many many decades, and enjoying the shave it provides.
I agree, Scott! The early OT’s, and I own a few, never really did it for me. I always found them too light. This razor always checked the boxes for me. I’d be interested in Gary’s (@brit) thoughts as he seems quite knowledgeable on all things Gillette.
thats a cool razor, maybe the longer handle helps with a dome shave.i myself have one old type left,a candian mid 1920's thick cap.it's my only old type that didn't have a smile or frown-overtightening the cap, bent plate-so i trust it.nice shave but it will bite you if you get complacent..i do prefer the new series more,ie new SC,RFB,and De luxe with 3 inch handles.they are my favourite OC razors.
I also, if you remember really like the new series as well. I have a new “ Bostonian” which you may remember is one of my favorite shaving Gillettes. But different razors for different headbones, YMMV!
Wow, that’ gorgeous! Mine is in nowhere near as good condition, and lacks a case. But it remains one of my favorite Gillette shavers. Since I lack a case, I think I should just refer to it as a “New Deluxe”. Your thoughts, Gary?
the cool part about your razor is that it's part of the new improved design and only came in this set. new de luxes didn't have pins on the cap..like this one. i would continue to call your razor what it is..a Big Fellow..
