I have a Slim Twist and I've not seen another like it. I'm it giving away, on my shaving channel. I'm trying to get some additional information/opinions, in the next few days before it goes. I've read all the information on previous TSD threads (I think). The base has the Gillette diamond logo and Made in England. It is exactly like the 1964 Slim Twist on Mr Razor's fine website except there is no Brit Pat or patent number on the inside. That space is blank. This next picture (1967) has the inside, centre space blank but it is not my razor. The plate design and Gillette branding, on the base are different. The questions I have are: How do you date a British Gillette Slim Twist? There are no letters or numbers to indicate the year/quarter? Mr Razor states that the 1964 example, above has J3 on the blade. Could I have a razor manufactured before the patent was applied for? Has anyone seen one like mine? I have only ever seen the above examples. Any additional information would be very, very much appreciated. I would love to be able to pass it on, with the razor and credit you all, for your knowledge. Thank you very much.
That would be my assumption. On the Gillette New razors there are more patent numbers the younger it is. British made Gillettes didn't use date codes and the ones with a letter and number code don't correspond to dates, so they are harder to narrow down without any provenance.
Hey, Jorge. It's nice to be able to chat, here. I don't know why I can't talk to you via YouTube. Thank you, for your input this week.
No problem mark. Yeah I don't know why you can't respond to my comments. I've looked at settings and all that and still can't get it to work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I noticed on @mr-razor's site that some Slim Twists made in Germany also do not have patent dates inside. They are listed as a Rotbart, even though it has the Gillette name on them. Possibly the same, but yours was made in England. Just a guess.
The German one's appear to be like the second picture (1st post); they have an oblong baseplate and inner plate rather than the diamond shape.
I have a Black Handle Flair Tip and another British Twist also with oblong baseplates and that was because of the year it was made. Gillette changed to it in later production razors.
They are called the G2000 (if made in Germany) and the G1000 if made in Britain. In the States, they are called a Slim Twist. The later British ones used Gillette date codes (in the 1990's) until they were discontinued, around 2004, if I remember correctly. You might be able to dig up more information if you search for "Gillette G1000."
Aye another YouTuber in the house you just picked up a subscriber sir! Sent from my XT1609 using Tapatalk
There is a 1978 G2000 made in Germany that has a British Slim Twist handle shape. The other G1000 and G2000, English models, have round tapered handles. Netherlands, England and Germany Super Slim Twist, round tapered handle. If that isn't confusing, I don't know what is.......
Yeah, I thought that too. I did think the G1000/2000's had round tapered handles. I'm off to double check.
