"Stainless" is such a generic name. Most blades are stainless steel. In this case, do they have no coating?
Although I've heard that it is balderdash that the name of a given blade actually means it has that coating.
I've also heard that every blade has some kind of coating.

And...I think the jury is still out on whether or not the 2 Gillette Platinums are the same, and whether or not one or both is the same as the uber-overpriced King C. Gillette blade.

I've heard that blades from the same factory are all the same, e.g. Gillette in PPI, and just put in different packages. Similar to Chico Marx in HORSEFEATHERS with his scotch and rye.

I was in Walgreens yesterday, and saw a 10-pack of King C. Gillete blades, and it said "Made in China". Perhaps this gives a clue to what they really are -- a Plat in disguise or not? They are still priced at almost 70 cents a blade -- but then so are the Walgreens-branded German Personnas that were right next to them.

the original KCG blades were made in st. pete's,it did state on the original razor packaging blades made in russia.then the war started.i oft wondered how long the u.s would source their gillette blades from russia.looks like they may have found their solution.older KCG blade tucks have " 00/00/00 " on the end as date manufactured.chinese ones just ve a number with letters?
notice the different packaging as well..

I may be wrong, correct me if I am, but I thought P&G/Gillette themselves owned/leased the factories in Russia/PPI, and didn't just source them from Russian manufacturers.

Anyway, I've heard that many Gillette blades are moving their manufacturing from Russia -- do we know which ones have been moved to China other than the KCGs? Have either of the Plats been moved there yet? If we know which ones have been moved to China, and when, we can narrow down which are really the KCGs.

Although I don't believe it's a conspiracy theory, I really doubt that the KCG blades are unique. P&G said they weren't the same as Plats, but they didn't say which Plats, and they didn't say they weren't the same as another Gillette blade.

Without seeing the numbers I can't say for certain, but I find it hard to believe that the sales of KCG blades even approach the sales of any other Gillette DE blade. Who are they marketed to? The people who bought the KCG razor, I think. And they marketed that razor for beard edging, not full face or head shaving. The people "in the know" will not pay those prices off-the-shelf for the KCG blades. I know you said you have an amazon subscription -- I haven't looked into that, but I take it the price is a lot better than 60 cents per blade.

The bottom line is that it just wouldn't make financial sense to make a special blade just for KCG marketing, but what do I know?

BTW, the next question that begs to be answered...

When will sellers start price-gouging Russian-made blades, and why haven't they done it already?

And...when all our favorite blades move production from Russia to other countries, I suppose we will have to all recalibrate our blade preferences. Maybe Nacets and Perma-sharps won't be among the sharpest anymore.

And Astra SPs are made in India now -- my stock is old from Russia.

At least I know I like Dorco Primes from Vietnam and 7 o'clock Permasharps from India. (Not sure why the 7 oclock blacks from India are so much more pricer.) Egyptian Silver Stars are pretty good, too.
