Can someone explain to me why so many of the handles cracked. It seems like they were such strudy little built items. I have bought three ball end techs and two of them are cracked.

 I don't remember ever seeing a cracked handle on a Ball End Tech, the handles are solid.

Is it possible you may be referring to the older, hollow ball ended handles, that Gillette used on the earlier open comb razors? Picture below is courtesy of Mr Razor's website:

You sire are correct. One razor i got was a Khaki set open comb and one one a gold/brass toned razor open comb in a travel case. I dont know much about these older shavers and was looking for some help on them.

Well there you have it! The older, hollow, ball end handles are notorious for cracking and coming apart, making your 3 piece razor a 5 piece razor.

IIRC, there is a thread around here somewhere, where somebody repaired one with epoxy.

I'll see if I can find it.....

A lot of us have used epoxy, gorilla glue, or other agents to reattach the parts of the old handles to keep them together. If you do this though, the collectors would have a fit if you ever released these handles back into the unsuspecting public.

But yes, in confirmation of what was so correctly stated, ball end tech handles are solid. The old ball end handles used in Old Styles, New Improveds, and New razors often cracked and were three piece handles with a hollow, crackable, tube.
