Someone got their shaving soap puck from Ginger's Garden yesterday evening! I haven't yet, but I will make sure to test it out sometime this weekend and let you guys know what I think about it. I will also try and upload some pictures. I'm pretty excited about it actually. I've never had a quality Glycerin soap so it will be something new. I don't plan on writing a proper review as I'm not experienced enough so give it a fair baseline. That being said, I'll try to express as best I can how it worked for me. By the way, what kind of shipping did you use? Thing shipped much faster than I ever thought it would. I wasn't expecting to have any mail and yet there it was! Double surprise this one was!
Working on it! I managed to get distracted half-way through the post. I only have one "soap" to compare it to, the TOOBS Sandalwood. This soap gave me a shave that was just as close as the other, but with more protection. My skin felt better and had less irritation. I also liked the scent very much. It isn't very strong, but stuck with me for a while. One thing I like about it is that even though the scent has staying power, it has a very "fresh" scent. I feel that I can mix and math it with colognes without it contrasting, yet it still smells of bay rum.
I had considered not posting those pictures as I did them without soaking the brush. After I showered I lathered it up again and it gave an even better lather. I would consider the lather showed in the pics as a worst-case scenario. Stuff lathers like a dream.
Funny little story I though you guys might appreciate about this soap. One of the first shaving creams I ordered along with my "kit" was Muhle's Shave Cream in Aloe. It was one of the first creams I tried and caused me a lot of irritation.... I found this off because even though I still have a lot to learn in terms of technique, I didn't feel that I was doing anything differently. Luckily I had only done a one-pass WTG shave as I was still starting out. Got a bad vibe from the stuff, put it away, and hadn't touched it again since yesterday morning. By this time I figured "why not?" and gave it another try. Two day growth, good skin preparation, three pass shave. Oh....my God did it burn. Come to find out I'm actual allergic to something in this cream. My shave was one of the best I've ever had (super smooth and close), but my entire face broke out in bright red. I can tell that it's an allergy and not irritation from the blade because the "break out" actually spread to places that my razor had never touched, including most of my left ear and my right ear lobe. Thursday was a work day for me so I used some WH and CHL on it. Those two things together did a great job of keeping the skin moist so it didn't much bother me until I touched it, but it looks bad. When I got home my skin was in much the same condition as it had been all day. I wondered to myself what soap do I have that won't make this any worse. After fiddling around the house I came to the conclusion that this shave soap might be best simple because it didn't have any ingredients I couldn't pronounce. Washed my face with the lather and reapplied more WH and CHL. The soap made it burn a little (nothing like the burn of the other, though), and most of the redness had disappeared within a couple hours. Good stuff. I'll probably PIF the Muhle's cream.
Also I should say that I couldn't find anything wrong with the Muhle cream. If I didn't have an allergy I would have been very happy with it. Gave me a great shave.
Too bad the Muhle's Shave Cream doesn't work out for ya. But great to hear the Ginger Garden is good stuff! Enjoy!
Yeah its kind of strange because other, more heavily scented product doesn't bother me. I'll have to see if I can't get the ingredient list and narrow down whatever I'm allergic to.
From Muhle's website INGREDIENTS: Aqua (Water), Potassium Stearate, Potassium Palmitate, Potassium Cocoate, Glycerin, Sodium Stearate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sodium Palmitate, Sodium Cocoate, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Potassium Myristate, Cetyl Palmitate, Parfum (Fragrance), Potassium Laurate, Sodium Myristate, Sodium Silicate, Sodium Thiosulfate, Benzyl Benzoate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Linalool btw, just because you can't pronounce something, doesn't make it bad. Have a look at the Wiki for INCI.
Irena, I have said this many times before but I take pleasure in repeating myself. Your Ice Mint soap is so delightful. JoAnna was 100% correct about the beautiful scent and lather, and there is a ton and a half of menthol in it - brrrrrrr cold and beautiful stuff! Diese Seife ist ein echter Schatz! (this soap is a real treasure!)
Thank you Jeff! As a friend would say this soap is the shizzle! He's Jewish, but I presume it means the same thing.
At $5 you really can't beat it. I've been only using the Bay Rum and the Taylor's Rose lately and they both work great. Only real difference to me is the price and scent. Just a matter of whether or not I want Bay Rum that day. I'll definitely try the Ice Mint when spring hits here and I am in need of Brrr
